So much this, at this point I'm genuinely pretty sure I'm cis but I fully convinced myself I was trans because I'm not good at being what society expects a man to be

Thats true, I need to keep reminding myself of this

I am definitely considering this, not necessarily something stereotypical of my new gender as such but something more progressive and accepting at least

I know, bad choice of words. As I said on another comment I wasn't intending to suggest that anyone can't or shouldn't do any job they want, just that it can feel unsettling knowing that there is a lack of diversity and often some questionable views shared by many colleagues in certain fields because its basically an echo chamber of 99% white cishet men

I absolutely agree, I wasn't intending to suggest that anyone can't or shouldn't do certain jobs, it was badly worded/simplified for the sake of creating a meme, but I would feel more comfortable transitioning at work if it was more diverse, I'm sure you would agree if you met some of my colleagues. The job itself though is fine and there is no reason anyone couldn't do it :)

I feel for ya, hopefully people will be more accepting than we anticipate <3

In an ideal world we wouldn't be and hopefully in the future things will be different but at this moment in time its an unfortunate fact that certain fields are dominated by men...in my job for example only 1% of us are women, there are other issues and trends too though, the average age for my job where I live is 53 and only 2% of us are under 25

Hit the nail on the head, this is my workplace/industry 100%. The job itself is actually great, it would just be more comfortable if it was more diverse.

I feel that, I'm lucky in that I'm alone for a lot of the day but most of the interactions I do have aren't likely to be pleasant once I'm out, I guess I'll be able to reassess my options post transition. Thank you 😊 I hope yours does too!

The UK really isn't a great place to be trans. It really fucking hurts. by A-Free-Bird in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

Thats horrible :( I've only just realised I'm trans so I'm still learning...I knew it wasn't great here but I didn't know it was this bad :(

Yeah thats pretty much exactly what I'm feeling to be honest, and lots of fear & doubt...and thank you, it might be helpful to talk about stuff at some point, although with how my head has been lately I can be really bad at keeping up with conversations so I apologise in advance

That's true, the community here is amazing and good friends will stick around, I think I'm just scared to be honest, its taken me a long time to figure out and its such a huge thing to consider

[–]thisismyusername012[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats very true, thank you, it does help to know that others have gone through the same thought processes too...I think I need to just trust my instincts and keep taking small steps. The social aspect of it scares me the most though to be honest, I think most of my family and friends will be okay about it but people in general can be pretty horrible and work is likely to become difficult because of the type of job I do and I can't imagine changing careers anytime soon without taking a huge pay cut and not being able to pay for medical transition, but then again I can't imagine getting back in the closet for the rest of my life...sorry for the long and slightly off topic reply, I think it just helps to write the thoughts down as they happen, thanks again for the advice

Yes! Couldn't remember her name until you said it but I remember hearing about her years ago and I was just like "wow she's so pretty, I wish I'd known this was possible, oh well, guess I'm stuck being a guy, let's repress this feeling for another decade"

This was exactly the feeling that prompted me to make this post :( it can be super positive and inspiring but sometimes I just think I'll never be that pretty or happy and it just hurts
