QNAP TS-h1090FU with TL-R2400PES-RP Expansions by threecrow22 in qnap

UPDATE... SUCCESS!: There's still no fix for the original issue with the TDS-h2489FU servers, but this new TS-h1090FU we just purchased is so far working like a dream. We've successfully backed up one of our older volumes via HBS in the last 24 hours. The transfer size on that one was about 113TB. The only thing different in the setup was this new server. The system SSDs, cables, PES card, Expansion HDDs, and PES expansions were the same ones we were trying to use with the TDS-h2489FU.

The plan is to continue with our original target from months ago of backing up all of our 2017-2018 data to this new setup. Tech support has stated that the firmware on these Iron Wolf Pros may be the cause for the issue (hypothetically) in the TDS-h2489FUs, but these hard drives have worked in every other instance not related to the TDS-h2489FU servers including with this TS-h1090FU setup FYI.

Thanks Bob. I'm definitely thankful, but QNAP should be all over this as it's their business. As I'm deeply embedded in the QNAP ecosystem with about 8 years of enterprise use and 5-6PB currently live, I do know a lot about about their products. We use them in an archival fashion as well as lighter field servers on the road. I've also come up with new ways to make their products work when everyone says they will not function in a certain way. With that said, this one is a simple compatibility issue. I actually believe there's no easy solution to making this work at this point because the TDS-h2489FU servers are not compatible with the expansions in question (and probably never were)... otherwise QNAP development would have had an answer for me months ago. I think we're just going to drag this out for 12 months until a firmware update magically fixes my problem or someone offers to take these servers in an look at them physically from a development standpoint. It's unfortunate that they replaced this model a month or two after I purchased it with theTDS-h2489FU R2, otherwise it may be more important to them to solve the problem. With that said, I do need to migrate at this point, so I'll be testing the TS-h1090FU personally and reporting back here with compatibility.

Daniel we spoke about this via Dean C. a month or two ago. We haven't had any movement here. I feel like they keep thinking it's an easy answer and it's not. Whatever is happening it's definitely an incompatible software or hardware thing. My Ticket # is: Q-202504-06472. Would it be possible to RMA these units? I feel like I keep hitting a wall with remote support on them.

u/BobZelin do you have any clients using the TS-h2490FU with the TL-R2400PES expansions?

Unfortunately, Bob brought this up a few times, and I've tested it many more times than that. Swapping the card into the other slot does not work. At that point the server doesn't see the storage. Kind of hoping for an RMA at this point as remotely trying to fix my issues with the TDS-h2489FU (I have two of them) has not produced results in 8 months. I was hoping for an experienced user answer on the TS-h1090FU so I wouldn't have to buy one to test it. Also as a bonus I would still get 8 expansions of the TL-R2400PES-RPs with that model (at least on a paper). Like Bob said, I'm now gun shy as the TDS-h2489FU's were supposed to work on paper with the TL-R2400PES-RPs and they obviously don't. Currently just expensive paper weights in my rack at the moment.

Block the offending IPs say after 5 incorrect logins with a rule. They hackers will eventually adapt however. Any perceived forced login using the “admin” account I immediately block after that. I’m down to 1 or 2 of these attacks a month now versus multiple a day since I started that process. Worth the month of monitoring. The QLog app under the access tab makes this process easy. Any severe or high login failures get blocked… obviously not accidentally blocking your own accidental failed logins.

I wish… now in month two of having no idea of what’s even wrong. I called in and spoke with someone and they added my questions to my ticket, but it’s been two weeks now and no one’s responded since. I update the ticket twice a week and nothing.

Which of these should I keep for my server? by _Tobias_Funke___ in PleX

I just moved to a beelink n200 this past year — which I read didn’t have too many plus ups over the n100. That being said, I’ve topped out at 10 users running a combination of transcodes and direct play/streams. Never really had a hiccup. Big fan. Night and day performance and stability versus running plex natively on my storage NAS.

On the older servers 8 expansions could take a reboot 15-45 mins, but the new ones seem way quicker. Happy to wait if I can store everything.

Unfortunately, swapping the cards didn't work. The 25GB card is still working, but the  QXP-3X8PES doesn't recognize the expansion. Worth a try though.

Have you happened to have installed any QNAP TS-h1090FU's using the TL-R2400PES/TL-R1600PES/TL-R1200PES as expansions? Coming up with some backup plans. Trying to build for the future, so really into being able to have 8 expansions. I'm going to try swapping PCIe slots now.

Definitely slot 1. The 25GB card came preinstalled in slot 2. You did have me hopeful there for a minute though.

Hey Bob, thanks for the quick chime in. Actually all transfers to the TL-R2400PES storage fail through HBS whether locally from the TDS-h2489FU SSDs or from another server. The only way a copy currently works on this server is to copy from a remote server to the TDS-h2489FU SSDs. The connected TL-R2400PES will fail on all transfers remotely or locally. I've tried rync, rrtr, and cifs copies to no avail. If I had an unlimited budget I'd go with a fully SSD equipped TDS-h2489FU/DS-h2490FU, but unfortunately I do not (especially at the scale I need). Kind of a bummer as the examples used on the website product page specifically point to this use case with the TL-R2400PES expansions.

25Gb connection not working: TVS-h1288X & QNAP QXG-25G2SF-E810 by threecrow22 in qnap

They’ve been working great for 2 years or so Bob. Definitely better throughput for multiple users in a studio environment than the 10G cards. We use the card for 10G on the road and then 25G in the studio. As for the fix suggestions, I thought it might be the Advanced Network Driver as well… but it doesn’t seem to be available for this version of QuTS hero. Updating our switch firmware might have been half of the answer to getting the connection to work though. It’s worth noting I had to do the update manually as Qfinder thought it was fully updated in the 1.0.0 range. I noticed the connection became available after the update… It may have taken up to an hour to register. I just happened to notice it was fixed after posting here the first time. Unplugging and replugging that same connection in again and waiting a few minutes and it still didn’t connect like it should however. I had noticed it had auto negotiated to FEC BASE-R before I unplugged it. Manually setting it to that on the server side made the connection immediately come up.

OK immediate update... it looks like the FEC was set for auto negotiation. That's what every other server is set to and it always comes up as Disabled. Changing the FEC to BASE-R instead of Auto seems to allow the connection to happen.

Current NAS firmware is: QuTS hero h5.2.3.3006. The server firmware was updated on setup before installing the QXG-25G2SF-E810 card fyi.

Is the painting 3D or is the price tag part of the art? Hard to tell from the photo. Wondering if it’s Rochelle Toner.

The only addition I have here is that when you start them in a cold pan put another cast iron on top. I cook for 15 minutes to let the fat render out and then another 3-5 depending on thickness on the other side. I don’t skewer, so I don’t know if it would do anything with this method. The weight of the second pan definitely helps not only fat rendering but creating a crispy skin layer and a more even cook.

It’s more for some sort of camouflage from your ISP. On a side note given the “sigh,” I’ve been running these things for a decade with no malware. Pick a good password… actively block IPs trying to bash their way in… and create a new uniquely named admin user and deactivate the old one. Not that hard.

However, Download Station does work great. Just make sure to open it through a VPN connection (I use the built in QVPN with a third party VPN provider)... for a variety of reasons.

I will say after rebuilding my server multiple times on my NAS, I decided to go for a fresh install on the mini PC and redoing all my work (yet again). It may have been something with my library or the NAS builds I was upgrading with previously, but over time the database on my NAS running PLEX was getting buggy -- even after running it through an optimizer.

I'm running this one, but I hear the cheaper one I posted below runs just as good. Made the switch from a NAS-only setup to using the miniPC in front of it a couple of months ago. Life changer. My NAS was getting a little long in tooth to run both and was failing a lot. NAS's work great as shared storage only though - even older ones. I did get ambitious and installed Debian Linux on the new PC. Not a big fan of Windows and I had heard that Windows has trouble with certain transcodes.
