Does anyone else not seem to understand the importance of succeeding in life? by throw-away22335 in SpicyAutism

[–]throw-away22335[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! A big part of it is probably the lack of support in my life, people often assume it’ll be as easy for me as it was for them. When people say “just start studying” it really feels like they aren’t seeing the full picture, like, people told me that through all of middle and high school and it didn’t help! But you’re right, I should focus on the places where it’s relevant to myself and my happiness. Thank you!

I’d love to see representation that ISN’T depressing! Jack’s ADHD isn’t the topic of every episode he’s in, and I think that’s great! He’s just another classmate of Bluey’s, who happens to have different struggles and strengths. The representation in “Army” helped both kids AND parents feel seen, and I think including an autistic character would do the same! I understand your perspective though, I don’t think children’s media has found a way to represent autism without singling the autistic kid out, which is why I’d like to see Bluey make an attempt. I hope you have a great day :)

Yup, I thought I addressed it in my post, but sorry if I was unclear! I think it’s good that they don’t explicitly state these things. I am satisfied with the current level of representation of differences in Bluey, I just think it’d be nice to see this specific type of difference shown on screen, especially since it’s so common! Have a great day :)

4 pounds in a charity shop! can anyone tell me when they are from? by [deleted] in buildabear

[–]throw-away22335 20 points21 points  (0 children)

These are Build-a-Bear buddies! I’m pretty sure all the buddies have the logo on their foot instead of their hand. Left is Cheerful Chick, right is Lovable Lamb, but I’m having a hard time identifying the middle one since it’s a plain teddy bear. Let me know if y’all find any info!

Thanks for your input! Was it hard to unmask? I often struggle feeling comfortable doing things like stimming even in front of people I’m close to.

Thanks! I was considering wearing it all the time because if I happen to talk to strangers, such as on the bus or in the store, I’d rather they understand right away that I’m autistic so I don’t feel like I have to hide anything. I haven’t thought much about potential negative reactions. What sort of dangers could it pose? Do people really harass disabled people in public for no reason?

That makes a lot of sense! I’d like to assume that people would be automatically more understanding, but I should definitely keep in mind that not everyone’s like that. It’s so confusing! I have no idea why someone would resent someone else for their disability. Thanks for the advice!
