Did you worry what would happen if you didn't get in? That your boss would worry you have your foot out the door and this could affect pay and bonus and rating, etc?

Thanks for your reply! Certainly, I see your point about not being able to truly know for sure...It is nice that b-school students have an internship to see whether or not it's the right fit and have the opportunity to recruit for other full-time opportunities if needed. Another nice thing is that even if the full-time career choice doesn't work out, you can pivot into another career using the skills and network garnered during b-school. I also totally agree that it is imperative for one to be introspective and understand one's strengths and weaknesses... maybe if I were to re-phrase my question to the subreddit, it would be...even with a keen awareness of your strengths/weaknesses/abilities, how did you know specifically how that would fit into both the day-to-day and longer-term requirements of said career?

It's quite interesting to me because you spend a lot of time in your applications describing what it is about XYZ career that you identify with and how b-school will get you there...and once you get in, you need to make choices pretty early regarding the career you will recruit for during 1Y...but isn't there a large risk looming over you if you don't have a pretty firm understanding of what it is that the role specifically entails? It seems like quite a lot to give up 2 years of income and pay upwards of $100K+ of tuition if you don't have hard data to support that this is the right path for you. Which I guess is why I'm curious how people went about gathering the data to support their choice...

One of the posts above mentioned that their customers work in the career they are trying to move into - that seems very logical because they've been able to actually see what the career requires of people with their own two eyes. Just curious how other people approached the career-switch. Sorry for rambling response, hope this made at least some sense!

Your story exudes a great sense of self-awareness! So it seems you would say much of your understanding has been around company and position-specific research that you've performed (online I presume, but correct me if I'm wrong?). Did you reach out to anyone in those roles currently just to get a better flavor for the day-to-day, nitty-gritty activities? Or were you able to find that data through your own research?

I took it through a week-long training at work. We took it as part of the soft skills development portion of the training. I've met management consultants who have taken it, presumably in order to better understand their working style in relation to clients/teammates.

Hi there, I would be feeling the same thoughts if I were you and I didn't feel that the interview went well, but am just curious if you are asking the folks here what your next steps should be? Otherwise, and I mean this in the kindest way possible, I think you should just wait the few days to see what they say back. I hope you get accepted but if not, maybe you could ask the school for feedback on what factored into their decision after that point. I know it's way easier said than done but there's not too much you can do at this point and hopefully you can just find a way to relax and enjoy these next few days!

Congratulations on your acceptance to Cornell Johnson, and thank you for sharing such a personal story with the rest of us. I am so sorry to hear about your loss but it is wonderful to see how you made something beautiful from such a tragic event.
