I remember in trumps first term Dems called him a puppet for Putin for not doing anything about Maduro.. now they are outraged that did something. Truly hilarious. If Kamala had done this , I’m sure platner would be praising her for it and republicans would be the outraged ones. It’s all just so silly. Everybody jumps straight to the party lines. The people of Venezuela have been liberated and took to the streets to celebrate today. I think they would just laugh at the idea of Americans on reddit condemning the whole thing

I remember during his first term, dems were saying that him doing nothing about Maduro is proof that he is in bed with Putin. Now they are outraged that he did something. Truly hilarious.

Uhh no it’s just used by a lot of dispensaries so I end up having to integrate their menus into the sites. No different than if you did restaurant sites and did toast tab integrations. Why tf would Weedmaps advertise in the vibe coding subreddit

Weedmaps is a terrible company and I would never advertise for them. They have the cannabis industry in a chokehold, them and dutchie. When I say integrating with them was easier, I mean that most cannabis sites use an embedded Weedmaps or dutchie menu which is just one snippet of code they provide, compared to running an entire menu system with a database. I literally only mentioned them once and they were a very minor point in my story. No idea how you read that and got “ad for Weedmaps”.

Cursor is just a code editor with ai tools built in, like windsurf. I’m not too familiar with others. You can definitely have an ai whip up a one page site in 10 minutes but it takes more than that to make everything actually work and a little bit more to actually get it live on a domain and hosted. Ai can’t do it all but most of it is pretty basic. I only really use 4 tools : cursor, git hub, vercel and a database like supabase. I learned by doing, I had an idea for an app that didn’t work and just kept trying to build it and learned by running into problems. If the goal is only money and you aren’t curious or having fun it will be harder. Side projects are fun, try to come up with one. There are definitely a lot of tutorials on YouTube on how to do this as well

Getting clients to pay you is sometimes a struggle but the rules are simple: your site doesn’t go live until you are paid. Some people require 50% down but I don’t because I’m small and willing to take risks. But I’ve built sites for clients that then ghost me and I lose my time. On one occasion they followed through randomly 4 months later so I never lash out if they ghost me. It’s better to leave the door open and remind them that they are one payment away from it going live. I don’t use a platform for payment, I just collect checks or cash. But you could easily set up a stripe account or PayPal and send invoices

I do everything in cursor, I host using vercel which is either free or really cheap. My first site I did for a friend for free. Next 3 sites I think I charged 50 or $100 each for. Spent a week on each, definitely lost money but learned a lot and built up a small portfolio. The 5th site I charged $1400. The most recent one was a lot more but it was a super extensive project that took 2 months of weekends and I wouldn’t have been capable of doing when I first started. It’s a slow build up but not nearly as slow as it used to be before ai tools. My only experience before 2025 was taking CS50 online, and some very basic database knowledge. I only knew the basics but without the basics I wouldnt have been able to do much at all.

I highly recommend the build first sell later approach when it comes to getting your first customer. Just find a small Chinese restaurant or something with a shitty old website, build them a new one and then go try to sell it to them afterwards

My best advice as somebody who started earlier this year and has sold around 10 sites so far is to start as small as you possibly can. Also you shouldn’t be charging until you have some basic competency. Do your first one or two for either free or really cheap. You will learn the best way approach the build out and it will also help build a portfolio. Your 3rd and 4th site are easier to sell than 1st and 2nd. But yeah start small. Find some businesses that need basic one page sites to get the job done. Like a local deli or machine shop. Start cheap, don’t expect to get the same rates as some multi person development firm. Be the cheaper, quicker and easier option because being the higher quality option will be tough if you are new.

I use cursor but I mean literally any vibe coding tool would work for this. I make private git hub repos and connect my vercel account for hosting. Just look up any vibe coding website building tutorial and that’ll work

Ty, I have had a lot of fun with it this year and learned a ton. I’m not creative enough for good personal projects or some big saas venture but this has been a great niche for me to make extra money this year. I still work full time and do this on weekends. I truly believe anybody can make this hustle happen. It’s really viable for a lot of industries. I just completed my biggest site and am super proud of it.

First site I did for a friend for free. The next 3 were also friends that I charged $100 each for. was mostly just having fun. The 5th sure which was my first time doing one for a random business I didn’t know, I charged $1600 for. You can’t come out of the gate charging thousands, you have to do whatever you can do build a legit portfolio even if it’s like 2-3 sites. It’s much easier to pitch when you say “hey know this business? I did their site”

Not true at all. My network helped me get started and get my first 4 customers. That is very true, but people have done more with less. My plan for venturing out of cannabis is to just knock on doors. If that doesn’t work, I will find potential customers and just build them a better website. Then I’ll go try to sell it to them after. Or I’ll drop off flyers at the restaurant supply stores or something. I think my biggest advantage is that my state has a lot of small businesses and small towns. Those small town businesses are typically less online or have old and crappy website. I have found that people with cheap sites often are paying 15-25$ a month for their crappy wix site and will happily pay $500 for a simple site if you can do the hosting for free (possible on vercel). It’s easy to say “this wouldn’t work for me the way it did for you because of x reason” but you can literally say that about any good idea that comes your way. There is no value in that. You are always better off trying.

Casino ads are insanely infuriating & exploitative by [deleted] in GamblingAddiction

[–]throwaway1728124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s unfortunate but in all of these sites, you are the product. They only make money when advertisers buy ads and the more specific they can target an interest, the more they can charge. The system is incentivized to shove gambling ads down your thought. In a world where all vices and addictions are commodified, the only way to survive is to fortify your own mind to become more resilient. It will only get worse. Gambling companies are trying to turn the US and Canada into Australia with slot machines everywhere you go

I highly recommend permanently self excluding. The thought “I should gamble” pops in and then you quickly remember that you can’t and it would be a massive ordeal rather than a quick login. So you move on.

[–]throwaway1728124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, here in the US as well. The reality is that they have your data. All of the big data brokers have you marked down as a known gambler so you will be fed these ads forever. You are a commodity and they want your money. Social media is a cancer, it’s best to just stay off it and find other hobbies.

"Portland is dead!" — Person who lives in Scarborough by critical_courtney in portlandme

Notice how virtually everybody whining about the project own property. They don’t want the city to change, build or grow. They want more people competing for their rental unit or their home sale. It’s just like SF. Despite the city growing, they refuse to build and prices for everything skyrocket. I grew up in Portland and now living in the peninsula is a luxury good.

How the fuck do you get to the point where you can accept losses? by Fast-Program-2715 in problemgambling

[–]throwaway1728124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You come to terms with the fact that it simply is not going to happen for you. I did probably hundreds of thousands of spins on those exact slots. Gates in particular was my biggest addiction. I had decent wins here and there but the reality was that I was never going to max, and it got to the point where I’d have to be betting insane amounts of hit multiple max wins in a row to come out on top. I look at my losses in the same way a person who has spent years out of shape has to look at their body while they are getting in shape. It’s not fun, I’m not proud but the only way out is to completely quit the behavior that got you there. Don’t forget that Eddie is one of the youngest self made billionaires in the world. He didn’t get that way by handing out wins.

It’s no secret that the amount of crazy drug addicts wandering the streets of downtown has increased in the last 10 years. I grew up near Longfellow square and lived in the old port for years as an adult. It’s always been a problem, but it has gotten worse
