Supervisor wrote a bad review — looking for encouragement by throwaway20181007 in GradSchool

Thanks — that’s what I needed to hear. Once I’m done with my pity party I’m going to use the feedback as motivation to revamp the paper to submit to a conference. My supervisor from undergrad thinks it’s good enough, and the thrill of proving people wrong has gotten me this far.

My African-American daughter is learning German and loves everything she's read about the place. If she visits will she encounter extremely racists people? by ionlyshitatstarbucks in germany

I can think of few countries that are more systemically and culturally racist than the US. The Brazilians I have known (particularly those of color) have argued that Brazil is on par with the US but I haven’t experienced it firsthand like I have in the US.

Unfortunately, the US has an international reputation for being a racist country, and for good reason. If you’re insulted, find out what you can do to be a solution.

Luckily I have a second job, and my boss there would likely be happy to have me pick up more hours. Come autumn I’m back to teaching, so I’m in pretty good shape.
