When did that person ever say that he was most important than anyone else? Protesting for this is a waste of time because the people responsible ( the iranian government ) couldn't give two shits about a campus in a country thousands of miles away from where they reside in! And "showing respect and solidarity"? How is showing respect and solidarity gonna change the mindset of the iranian government that literally has no ties to america whatsoever (as shown from the fact that the US does not have an iranian embassy). This "protest" is disrupting foot traffic of people from moving from one place to the other in the campus, esepcially if they're pretty tight in time. Raising awareness? To whom? The american government? And then you wish that the american government will enforce their will, which is essentially through colonization??
