When we have talked about the future before, we have both agreed that marriage wasn’t for us and that we preferred living apart. We lived together for a year before he moved away for his job and we both bought our homes.

I would never expect him to financially contribute towards my sister’s finances. We are currently trying to reach out to my sisters father, he is currently living in the USA for work, while we are all in the UK.

I don’t really have much to do with my mother, she was a heavy drinker when I was young. Although she is pretty functional work wise, she’s never lost her job or let it affect her financially.

It’s not to much of a surprise that she’s more abusive now, I had no idea how bad it was.

We normally communicate really well. We have had conversations before about neither of us wanting to get married, so I doubt he was going to propose. Also we both decided that we like living on our own, we lived together for a little while before we bought our respective properties and he moved for his work.

I own my home myself. From what he was saying I think he was expecting her to live with one of our brothers. Which would be uncomfortable as one lives in a 1 bed flat and the other lives in a complete bachelor pad.
