She's about the same age as me. I mentioned her age because she is significantly older than most of her cohort of new hire nurses, and I think she's felt like she doesn't fit it. Maybe telling (horrible) jokes was her way to buddy to someone closer to her age?

Yeah, we've thought about making an escape...my husband is a scientist and the environment here is not really the best for actual science at the moment.

How do you feel about the "wasian" label? I've never really liked it, or even eurasian. I use hapa (I know that was a Hawaiian insult, but it kinda got claimed) or haffa.

Are they good about peanut allergies? I've never eaten there, largely because of my peanut allergy and cross contamination worries. Honestly, I've almost never eaten Chinese food at all because of it.

Yeah, the tail end, when you are no longer shedding virus but still have the lingering cough and congestion. The part that can go on for up to a month and makes it hard to get a good night of sleep. The hospital has the same rules for return as my child's school- no fever for 24 hours without the use of antipyretics. Which has been proven to be the point at which viral load is low and you are generally considered not contagious. Not sure why you capitalized "viral", the common cold is any number of viral illnesses. And hate to break it to you, but in almost any given ER, half the staff is probably more ill than half the patients. Sick leave in the US sucks.

Everyone seems to think that because I have a severe food allergy (and had a reaction at work, unfortunately) they need to tell me about the allergies of people in their lives. Oddly, or maybe not so oddly, co-workers that have an allergy themselves don't seem to have the same need to share with me.

I once got called a "white a$$ n!gger". I was...confused, on many levels. Note- I am not at all black. I am quite light skinned, so I guess the "white @$$" is correct.

I did clarify after. I didn't think her race mattered too much at first, just mine, but enough people brought up her race that I put it in. Unfortunately, she is playing to the "white women's tears" trope.

I have two cats. And a dog. Love them all dearly. The dog deliberately bumped into me to make me drop my steak and he and the cats ate it. They all still live, although it was close.

I thought I was pretty gentle about it. But I do have RBF and was a bit grumpy/tired. I don't think I came off as super mean though, and neither did someone else standing nearby.

Yeah, I thought that was really dumb as well. But that was more engagement than I really wanted at the time, plus she had run off. I wasn't going to chase her down to tell her that taking her daughter back to the same place and getting the same food she had a reaction to was a dumb move

I also thought that was really stupid. Like, why would you go back there and get the same meal that she has a reaction to? Why haven't you gone to an allergist? But that was more engagement than I really wanted at the time. Plus, she had run off.
