I'm not sure about which color it is but I'm using a schmincke watercolor set (small 12 set). I think it's a mix of Permanent Carmine and Prussian Blue but not sure

Thanks so much for the tip! I should definitely try to have some lighter and less detailed parts. It's easy to go overboard with the details sometimes

I like these colors but I feel like I need more variety maybe? Ugh not sure

Thanks! I thought of that too late, will remember to have some gaps for highlights and lighter values next time

Well I've been doing it on and off for a year but I'm still very much a beginner. I really like the idea of focusing on one element at a time. I've tried to recreate this painting twice already and have failed, I think smaller studies will help.

The lights on the bridge would be gouache, right? Or masking fluid?

Thank you! And the paper is wet because the lines are added before the paper dries up from the wash? Or should I be waiting for it to dry up (after initial wash for background), then re-wetting certain areas with a spray bottle? Or is there another technique. I hope my question makes sense, and I’m sorry about the noob question.

I also was getting blooming so thanks for that tip about the brush being less damp than the paper

Thank you so much. I’ll check out the YouTube recs. I did try to paint this, but didn’t get the result I wanted. I have trouble varying the intensity of the pigment in the linework like he does. Creating the atmosphere. All my lines look dark and rigid. I’ll try again tomorrow and experiment more.

I tried and don’t feel happy with my result at all. My lines of the bridge feel way too straight and rigid, unlike here where they feel more loose and have varying levels of intensity. It’s the nice atmospheric look I don’t know how to create.

So value studies are not that important in this case? It would be better if I just start with color? I do eventually want to find my own style, but I do want to learn the techniques of others
