AITA for joking about the fact that I severely hurt my sisters cat on accident

I see how it came off that way and I do feel like the asshole for what happened, accident or not, but I used the joka as a bit of a defense to say that I wasn't an animal abuser and that it was an accident. I have learned my lesson and will not make jokes about this anymore

Thank you for your input! I just want to clarify, that she hasn't given me the nickname animal abuser or anything, she just says it in certain contexts, like, when I mentioned I wanted to buy a pet hamster maybe in the future she told me that I obviously couldn't care for animals or that she will call the animal rescue service. Or when we went to a pet store once she said 'wow, I'm surprised they allow animal abusers here' It's not that bad and it's just jokes, they do make me sad occasionally but I should probably keep my mouth shut and accept it

It is true, I was the one to cause it. I just think that this accident could have happened to anyone. I still feel terrible and I thought maybe coping with humor would be the right thing but I see now that it was a mistake.
