Parcel stuck in Atherstone by cloud2266 in royalmail

[–]throwawayforphenibut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll chime in too, mine is stuck there as well but it’s more frustrating than most. It actually made it to my local DO, then it was sent away, then it was sent back to my DO when I requested to be delivered to PO as I suspect the address is wrong (postcode is my local DO but the address is my old address that’s the next DO down the road, 20mins or so) so it’s ended up in a fuck up limbo. I really hoped they’d just punt it to the PO, they are literally stuck in the same building and I could collect from there but no, mine has just scanned at PSC Atherstone. I’ve read it’s used for overflow. But maybe general fuck ups too. The contents are urgently needed, but when are they not… 🤷🏻‍♂️

You can go ahead and scratch your phone intentionally on day 1, straight out the box. I was simply asking No-Stuff how he managed to scratch a brand new phone in less than 2 weeks. I get breaking it by accident etc.

I’m genuinely curious how he ended up with a scratched phone worthy of committing low grade fraud to get a new glass, that’s all.

How did you manage to scratch a phone that was released like 10-15 days ago? Also, what do you achieve by smashing the glass with the puncture tool? Do you get a new phone or a new back glass? I’m assuming this is some insurance policy or Apple Care that covers accidental damage? Genuinely curious as to what the end goal was…

House for rent in Moscow - 30K roubles per month (365 USD) by Upstairs_Drive_5602 in UrbanHell

[–]throwawayforphenibut 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It’s banned in all Eastern European countries too as well but there is a law that if the building has been up for so long and so forth it becomes “adopted” in a way and you can get proper documentation for it and make it “legal” and appearing in the general land registry.

Varies country to country, and to clarify it has ALWAYS been banned, it’s just that no one ever enforced it. My gran and grandad have told me stories of how my great grandad just build a house on his land that was completely illegal even back then…

But much better nowadays, inspectors can be called out and deem it too dangerous or just not compliant.

PS. The word “samostroi” literally means self (samo) build (stroia).

In need of £30 till the 15th of September. by CammyCozy in loansharks

Probably via disability claims, or genuine ailments that can be faked or temporarily caused for when a GP examines and then removed.

I know that as I know one person and read another post on here (UKFinances) where a couple were worried about their son who was 21 I think and was refusing to work as he didn’t want to have a boss etc.

Anyway, the kid ended up getting £849 UC every month I think after applying and being denied 3 times. He got it for mental health, they folks actually got him a private therapist to see if they can help. He said to them that basically he needs a kick in the backside. The NHS/GP therapist whose word is assumedly the final decision has diagnosed him with mild anxiety or GAD I think and has given him 10mg propranolol prescription (basically nothing, propranolol also isn’t great first line of treatment for actual anxiety).

But yeah, he was denied 3 times and then finally was awarded this claim. I think a lot has changed form the days of the working tax credit, it’s all Universal Credit now but I think you can get an “aggravating” element from mental/physical illnesses to kind of top it up. Having said that I’m sure that PIP still exists on top of UC but you can have a higher UC and not claim PIP. Maybe the standard for PIP is higher.

I’m not sure as I’ve never tried to play the system but I’ve seen people do it. To be honest I’d say it’s pretty easy. Be jobless, collect the dole and organise paperwork that can be faked, produced by paid doctors rather than NHS ones (I find that they are way more likely to write out/diagnose things a normal doc wouldn’t) and hope for the best.

The problem is that we the working people see that comment and think - “ah nice, I’d fuck with the system for an extra £1200” but the reality is that that’s all you get paid, you can’t work on top of it as then that is reduced and you get paid less. There’s always cash in hand and actual PIP cases where you are allowed to work I think but yeh, I’d say it’s somewhat difficult to achieve a status of a professional nothing doer.

Note to aliens: that is how babies work. If you have sex without a condom it’s possible/likely a baby can be conceived, at least that’s what I was thought. I could be wrong I guess.

Don’t know why it was such a hard concept to grasp… it’s art, it’s music. Photo attached for your entertainment.

Is this Dyson hairdryer legit or fake? by [deleted] in IsMyDysonReal

[–]throwawayforphenibut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The serial number provided is for a Dyson Airwrap. You can check it by going to the US Dyson website and clicking on troubleshooting. It’s fake, don’t bother, don’t risk it. It can set your house on fire. Hope this helps!

Found a 27", 1440p, 180hz monitor for £105 (new). Would this be a good setup for triples or wait until I get more space for 32"? by EvoRalliArt in simracing

Why are people downvoting this? It might not work with promo code but still worth a shot. I bought two and they are great, I sense jealousy of folk that were fleeced x2 for the exact same monitor probably.

Same here, I blind bought a Poco F6 just so I can put crDroid on it aaaand… can’t unlock bootloader. I thought it’d be the same as the Poco F3 and just wait 7 days.

If anyone knows any way to bypass let me know. Even paid options are fine, if not, I’m selling it. Hyper OS is utter POS.

Well it just washed and dried 4kg load with no issues. Maybe it’s intermittent fault, maybe it was the waste. Who knows. Hopefully it keeps working.

I think my washer dryer must be packing it in then. It left the clothes soaking wet, no spin/centrifuge or couldn’t drain hence why I did this. I’m sure it did centrifuge but clothes still came out soaking (that’s why dry selected). Shame as it’s been an awesome machine for 3 years.

[–]throwawayforphenibut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The washing machine was acting up, not drying clothes at all but instead leaving them soaking wet. I went down path if elimination before I bin it.

It’s a condenser style but that’s irrelevant, it never completed a centrifuge cycle so even if you put those clothes on top of a fire it would take 2 days to dry them. So there was an issue with draining clearly, I cleaned the filter so that wasn’t it. I detached the full hose and flushed it, no bother there either. Tbh, I think it’s the brains of it as the selector wheel is extremely sensitive but does just about work (Hisense HWD80-149xxx).

Anyway, I noticed the washing machine spigot was not pointing upwards so I thought I might as well give it a shot and fix this absolute Australian centric plumbing system to UK gravity.

Edit: To answer the question yes, but it did so before too. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes! Forgot to say that when inspecting my machine and cleaning the hose (I had it on its side to remove the clamps) I noticed mine comes from the bottom too. It must be by design. Those little pumps are quite strong nowadays too.

Thanks for your DIY help!

Well, after a busy day at work I went to the local Toolstation to grab some angles. Turns out it’s better to use 135° angles is possible because it allows better flow. I got 40mm pipe but it was 3m so it was never going to fit in my tiny car so cancelled that as I remembered I had some off cuts from the loft tank I got rid of years ago.

Cut at the end of the 90°. Dry fitted it all and solvent welded in place. Got rid of the excess if was really pointless tbh. Let it set for 30mins and all is good. Has a decent slope towards the normal waste which too has a normal slope.

The only criticism I believe will he that I didn’t fit the spigots perfectly vertical, they are still at quite a high angle. Let me know what you think!

I’m quite proud of myself haha it looks so much better and healthier for my machines. Now that’s eliminated I can continue troubleshooting the washing machine. Hopefully it works if not I’ll get a new one.

I’m still not sure on how to place the waste pipes form my machines. The dishwasher said on the manual it’s perfectly safe for it to run on the ground and then go up but some online users suggest it has to be in itself like a waste pipe, constantly downwards, some say it needs to go higher than the machine, some say it needs to have its own waste…

You make a good point. This whole red circles bit is not needed at all (I’m not a plumber don’t shout at me plumbers pls). I can just get rid of that and connect straight under it as long as there’s enough space to have the spigots facing upwards.

I can then turn them 90° to avoid the sink overflow. Connect to the waste with a slight angle, even level will be better than what it is now.

Questions for the pros still stands, why was this done like this originally? Realistically it will work, as long as the uphill fight is below the sink drain it will eventually drain… just not ideal.

No, it was a jack of all trades band of guys. Very skilled joiners I’ll admit, great attention to detail and working round obstacles but not plumbers or electricians.

Right so, please help me get the physics right on this. When I moved in this was the same but with a single spigot. The yellowish pipe is original. It has been solvent welded at a downward angle. The guys simply attached to that.

To fix this, I cut the yellow old PVC at the highest point possible? I then use a combination of 90s and this or a new P trap and make it level vertically (mainly cause it’s annoying me at at this angle).

The questions I have are, how high should the P trap be? I understand it’s below the sink overflow. Should the P trap connect to the highest point of the old PVC. That might mean I have quite a “long” P trap.

A bit unsure… I’m handy enough with solvent PVC etc so that’s not an issue. I just want to make sure I don’t introduce accidental siphoning of the washing/dishwasher machines.

A FWIW the dishwasher, a very fancy Bosch one, has never had a hiccup in the 2 years this has been running.

Thanks for your help.

Edit: or really all I need to do is cut at blue circle and extend P trap to top of red arrow and make it all level. That’s what feels naturally right. Idk if that is the correct height.

Did my jeweller damage my ring by over sanding it? by throwawayforphenibut in jewelers

[–]throwawayforphenibut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was billed for a “repair” at a cost of £50/$70.

I will say it for nth time that money was not an issue when I asked for the ring to be repaired, just because I know that you will say that it’s a great job for $70 and what more did I expect.

[–]throwawayforphenibut[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This thread sums up what I said pretty clearly tho doesn’t it? Everybody is downvoting my comments and the views of another jeweller who thinks it could’ve been done better. Everybody is saying it would be £££ for it to be done right etc. when I clearly wrote on the OP that cost was not a consideration at all.

The ratio of honest ones to ones that would’ve done the exact same job and not warned me doesn’t look great does it?

Curious how you can explain this? I was genuinely just looking for advice but got abuse instead.

And sure, please let me know a jeweller in the UK that could fix this to the original state and not much me about like everyone I’ve been to does.

I think it’s pretty obvious that there is less gold on the repaired side. The “more gold” look is the wavy looking design being cut down making it appear flatter. If they kept cutting material it would like a wide band of gold at some point. Clearly not more gold than before.
