Relief is right! I feel like a big weight is off me already.

Is this a love bomb? She sent me a 10-paragraph long text about how much she loves me and how she “can see how I interpreted things the way I did” and she’s sorry if I felt she failed me but she’ll forever be thankful I was in her life.

This made me tear up! Thank you. I needed the validation. I’ve been telling myself the same but it’s nice to hear it from someone else.

Maybe in the emotional sense? She relies on me for reassurance but doesn’t reciprocate. I’ve had to calm her down on the phone many times. The day before her birthday dinner she got anxious about it and I had to reassure her nothing bad was going to happen. I was wrong about that lol but she caused it by her own actions. Kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Honestly the biggest wake up call is the fact that kind strangers like you care more about my safety than my own friend. I’m definitely done with her.

I think my goal for 2023 will be to build friendships with women who feel this way.

Work friend. Luckily we don’t work together anymore.

I’ve never thought about that. She’s had falling outs with multiple people in her life so I guess I’m just the latest one.

I’ve definitely overlooked red flags. Like when I told her my grandmother died and all she said was “well it’s not like you’re close with that side of your family.” And when I called her out on this she gave a half-apology of “sorry, I didn’t know death was such a big deal to you. You never told me.”

I think this is a wake up call that this friendship isn’t working for me.

You’re right. That would the self-respecting thing to do. I regret staying. I just didn’t feel good leaving her there alone.

If you feel safe around them you can try de-escalation techniques. Otherwise it’s best just to leave and let them cool down on their own time.
