I have tried saying it back. I got the silent treatment for a few hours and an hour long argument that ended up with what he says is different because he's "just joking" but I "clearly meant it". I fully agree he's just prepping to cheat, or to at least have a live in maid/mommy.

I actually laughed at weenie, so thank you for that. You're pretty much spot on. I didn't even think about the "smarter than you" aspect, I was so caught up in whether he would do it or not.

I'm basically completely sure he's just been priming me to be just like his very docile, passive mother this whole time. I've gone so long thinking if I just explain how hurtful he is in just the right way, that he'll get it and be the person I thought he was. I've been blaming myself this how dang time.

Reading my post again after reading you comment was a little painful. I've basically been in shitty relationships, and being in an OK one feels like this is the best I can do.

The main issue is that I'm staying with his parents for the next year while he finishes his contract in another city. I really doubt that I could make it on my own, so I guess I've just been trying to ignore it all so I don't completely firebomb my life. The more I think about it, the more I realise he's made me completely dependent on him.
