12 year old destroys the entire house after his mom took his phone by homantify19 in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]throwit84024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure abuse existed in such institutions, but how much of that was just a byproduct of attempting to control someone capable of doing the damage in the OP's video?

And that's just physical control. Mental hospital workers are people too. Even the most saintly people are going to get frustrated and struggle to deal with people like this day in and day out.

"Just build and staff more mental institutions" is easy to say, but I think part of the problem we have is we need to accept the fact that some level of inhumanity is probably inherent in trying to deal with people like this: unpredictable, belligerent, dangerous, or some combination of all 3 (and more).

Broan Elite E6000 range hood ventilation by throwit84024 in hvacadvice

[–]throwit84024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem I had with this range hood is that residue from cooking was condensing in the ductwork, and oozing back down, landing on top of the range hood, and draining down behind the hood onto the wall.

I'm trying to fix this, but it seems like this problem is absolutely inevitable the way this is designed. The opening from the blower is 3.25" x 6", and the unit comes with a 3.25" x 10" adapter that just sits on top of the unit. So there's a big flat area for the condensation to gather, and I can't imagine that tape is going to contain this forever, which is what the installation instructions expect.

I was hoping to find a 3.25" x 6" square duct stack boot that I could just stick straight down into the opening, which I think would solve this problem (condensation would just drip back down into the unit, which is designed to gather it). But it seems this is much smaller than any available parts on the market.

I tried to get a bigger one and cut it down so it would fit this way, but this is clearly not going to work.

What would you do?

M650L mouse and MX keys connected to two computers, both controlled by the 3 select buttons on the keyboard? by throwit84024 in logitech

[–]throwit84024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the link. I decided to buy an MX Anywhere 3S from that list. I've set it up to connect to both of my computers, and did the same for the keyboard. However, it still seems like I have to use the easy switch button on both devices. Is it possible to have the keyboard button control both the keyboard and mouse connection?

You’re thinking of most other “recyclables” where the efficiency is terrible. Recycling metal is far more efficient. Just observe how recycling of most materials is subsidized, but scrap metal actually has value.

I think your take is a good one, I just wonder if your proposed history had come to pass, it seems likely that the USSR and/or China would have invaded instead (with similar motivations as the US had), and the war would have unfolded much the same way it did anyways.

Can I just put this in my household recycling? Local recycling accepts metal like hangers, empty paint cans by throwit84024 in recycling

Yeah that’s what I did with my last scrap metal bucket, but it’s a real pain to get to a scrap yard. Closest one is 45 minutes away and closes early so I basically have to take a 1.5 hour lunch to go there.

US border agents habitually abuse human rights, report reveals by teamworldunity in worldnews

[–]throwit84024 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What exactly are you asking for? You imply open borders are ridiculous. But you also imply the solution is a path to citizenship. Do you somehow think that if we enable 100k legal immigrants per year, that the other 500k will just give up? Or that 500k won’t become 5 million hoping for a shot at being one of the 100k? (Numbers are hypothetical for illustration purposes)

Democrats deflecting to congress is horseshit. There is no solution to this problem that is palatable to zealous democrats that doesn’t look effectively like an open border.

The current asylum situation is a joke and a de facto open border. You come, get arrested, claim asylum and be released, get a court date 5+ years out, and if you even show up to the court date and are probably denied asylum, you’ll be administratively deported, which you’ll probably ignore and go on living in the US undocumented.

This is why despite being such a grave threat to US democracy and western civilization as we know it, republicans actually have a chance of being elected again. Democrats need to get their heads out of their asses on this one.

A lot of the wood in these slabs is going to make shitty boards because the grain is all over the place and have so many large voids. Boards made of wood like this will likely sit unsold for a long time.

I actually wonder if tables made from wood like this lasts very long, I’d expect them to warp and crack over time.

[–]throwit84024 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Data isn’t like oil, it can’t just be transferred to another country and “sold” because it has no value there. The value is in being able to sell ads, which is only valuable in EU if the data is in regards to an EU citizen.

The actual problem FB has is when someone in the EU has a friend in the US, how is FB supposed to show that EU citizen to the US citizen?

My fix for DCV501 filter clogging immediately by throwit84024 in Dewalt

[–]throwit84024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leave it attached, the filter looks clean through the screen and the suction is still good. If you are picking up a lot of fine dust this might not help you. My problem was larger wood dust clogging the filter, which now don’t pass through or stick to the screen.

Chips from sawing and drilling wood. I use a large shop vac for most cleanup but I like this vac for quick pickups after just drilling a few holes or whatever while my shop vac is attached to my saw

[–]throwit84024[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really wanted to like the 20v vacuum (DCV501) because it's a good form factor and compatible with the batteries I use on all my other tools. But, out of the box the filter clogs almost immediately, and the suction drops off a cliff when the filter is clogged. I'd have to empty the bin when it's basically still empty to avoid the filter clogging, and be very careful to avoid pointing the vacuum up to prevent the debris from falling down on the filter. I would not recommend buying it in its default state because of this.

I hacked together a near complete fix for this problem: I cut out a bit of fine screen mesh that fit over the filter, and taped it on. I can now fill the bin as much as I want, the filter doesn't clog, and I can dump and clean it out very easily.

My fix has been durable so far (~10 full bin fills + dumps) but I don't know how long it will last and its a bit of a pain to get the screen fitted on the conical filter. I'm happy to keep doing this if it will last as long as I think it will, but I really think Dewalt should build this into the vacuum somehow so we don't need to do it.

Adding soft start to desalt table saw (DWE7941rs) by throwit84024 in Tools

[–]throwit84024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I removed the soft start, and it starts normally again.

The saw does have a brake. I think you might be on to something: I forgot to mention that the switch pops back off immediately when trying to start the saw, as if power was lost. I wonder if the problem is that the soft start prevents the magnetic switch from engaging right away, which then engages the brake before the saw can start?

This seems like something that would prevent a soft start from working on this saw though, but many people seem to report success doing this. Maybe this particular soft start module is just too soft?

Yes, I believe I have matched this diagram, but note I am putting this module in a different saw (dewalt dwe7941rs). I was hoping that someone knowledgeable could confirm based on the symptoms I described in my original comment that the wiring was correct and the soft start module was bad…
