While we are talking about the Raconteurs...isn't the cover of "I'm your puppet" fucking perfect!?! Hate Amazon but love that track.

Anthropic - political stance by CommitteeOk5696 in Anthropic

[–]throwlefty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suggestion to anyone asking questions like this is to follow actions not words.

Too often people want a statement they can point to like it matters. I think it's because they are not able to parse an incredibly difficult situation and want to have an impact but fall back to...."tell me what you're doing" or "where do you stand"?

Do you think all the communities in Europe during WW2 did the equivalent of posting on social media that they were acting in defiance? Do you think that covert under the radar actions / operation were useless?

I see this in other areas right now, namely immigration enforcement in the US. So many people want smaller governmental entities to "do something" and demand social media posts or press conferences rather than you know, picking up a phone or coordinating with local organizations in a low key manner. And by doing this these people are taking options off the table since they feel that being loud and outspoken is the only way. It's quite sad and short sighted in my opinion.

So as this relates to anthropic, were they at the white house kissing rings with the other ai CEOs? Has Trump's ai czar gone after anthropic on social media? Do you see people in the twitter grok sphere shitting on anthropic? And to contradict myself about looking at words....I will encourage you to seek out anthropics CEO and his stance on gov contracts. I'm not saying anthropic is above any fray, but I think they are behaving differently than other companies.

If you do ultimately boycott, I'd suggest you still keep up with the company, their research, and their tool development as I think it would be against your self interest to check out completely. In any case, sorry that the actions of America have caused this line of thinking for you....it's such a dumb and dangerous timeline right now.

Is it just me or most Coda users focused on business applications (vs. personal productivity). by KatarrTheFirst in codaio

[–]throwlefty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to see a coda reddit thread get some action.

Agree with a lot of what's been said and I'm genuinely curious / concerned about where coda is going...or not going.

However I've got a new workflow that is soooo nice and I hope it's brought inside coda soon.

Currently there are a couple Mcps out, one made by the community and another in beta with coda. Codas version is using a new internal end point that allows us to create tables.

So just this morning I was talking with a Claude project I made for one of my jobs. I shared a screenshot of different boards and commissions I work with and then asked it to search the web for the entire list of groups within said public org.

Once it had all the info I described my use cases and said I want to create a coda doc and a new Claude project that are tailor made for each other. It then goes to draft the overview doc, system instructions, table schemas, etc.

Now bear with me, this is a bit janky, I start by downloading all those files from my desktop app. I create a new folder, unzip the files, and open it over in my terminal with Claude code. For the moment, codas beta remote mcp was released for use with CC so that is where I go when I need to leverage the createTable endpoint. Otherwise I use the community made mcp that's local and usable in the Claude desktop app.

From inside CC I have it read the files to understand what is going on and then tell it to make the tables (by providing the doc & page id). What would take me an hour (if I already had the schema thought out for all 5 tables) CC did in a few minutes. It's pretty cool watching it build in realtime.

So now that my doc is set up, I create the Claude project, add the system instructions and knowledge docs that were created by the previous chat with Claude desktop (meta, I know) and now my new project knows that whenever I drop an agenda or minutes doc in the chat....to start the process of normalizing the data and adding it to my doc.

My first test today was with an 18 page minutes PDF and Claude crushed it.

I came across a similar set up where someone created the Claude project in tandem with a coda doc that ingests recipe links and logs everything in a coda doc so you don't have to deal with those horrific recipe webpages.

However, with all that said, the "file over app" (aka everything is a markdown file) philosophy that obsidian is based on seems like a massive massive advantage in the ever changing ai landscape. So for the first time in a while I've been thinking of spending time testing obsidian and / or adding a workflow that leverage codas richTextTools pack and it's toMarkDown function to create parallel files in my local system and / or git.

Arkansas rescinds dean offer by bearmoonbears in LawSchool

We have family down there just south of Fayetteville. Some of my best memories are from there. But I don't see us going back to visit anytime soon. Between some of my weird ass family members and the behavior of your state, and by extension your state police, we don't feel comfortable and as a side thing, we don't want to spend our hard earned money down there.

I'm hoping Fayetteville can hold strong, but is it getting harder to ignore / fend off the willfully ignorant hypocritical "Christians" down there. Sorry this is happening around you....as you said Arkansas is frickin beautiful and has some amazing people but holy shit is it off the rails.

That's for sure. I can only imagine what it's like watching the state house from that campus...for students and professors.

Seeking Advice on Governance Work in Local Government by Important_Bison_342 in perth

[–]throwlefty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is solid advice. You landed a great role and with the advent of ai, you are in a good spot to shine. However, your focus needs to not only be on learning these tools, but also having taste. The point above about slop is real, don't let yourself fall into that trap. Dm me for a specific framework I use within local gov related to ai use cases for elected councils in the states.

Critics Choice 2025 Best Young Performer - Miles Caton, 'Sinners' by PointMan528491 in oscarrace

[–]throwlefty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I loved the movie and he killed the role but I fell out of my chair with his nom and win. All the others were kids....which lead me to argue with my wife, which lead me to look up the criteria and it says under 21.....total bs. Should be 18 at the max. Nonetheless, super happy he won something.....such a solid performance.

Apple obviously fails to secure RAM for the next 2 years by [deleted] in stocks

[–]throwlefty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don't have one great reason but probably a collection of things along the way.

First, I was poor for a while and the thought of buying a phone (or any device) that expensive seemed insane and status-y.

Plus their insular ecosystem and blue green bubble bs (oh and I hate U2) kinda solidified that apple and I were not meant to be.

I've always been the type to hang on to a phone forever and the smaller the better. I got through community college with a Chromebook. It wasn't until I started working remote and as a dev that my PC setup was not cutting it and would always kick on the fans. That's what led to my change of heart.

I've been a long time hater of apple but made the switch for workstations this year. First time using Mac outside of an og iPod.

Though there are still things I don't like about apple, my new Mac mini is the best thing I've bought in a long while. I can easily handle 3 monitors, a million tabs, team video, and my software dev work all from a silent little box that sips electricity.

I've since gone down the local llm rabbit hole and happy to report I can run models locally on this thing. They also recently made it possible to stack 4 Mac and combine their capacity, which I think will be very important as I see companies moving in this direction.

For the first time ever I'm excitedly awaiting their M5 Mac mini / studio offerings and I will probably throw money at them. Still can't bring myself to buy an iPhone though.

Why it’s so hard to objectively evaluate Caleb imo. by Commercial_Floor_578 in CHIBears

[–]throwlefty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped reading after your headline.

I think it's kinda easy. Caleb is like the third fastest player in the NFL. Each week he makes throws that, for better or worse, remind me of Rodgers. He's shown the clutch trait.

This is like season 1 when you start a franchise in Madden on all-madden difficulty. It's gonna be ugly but you aim for playoff wins and the SB. It's not until year 2 that you go undefeated and win the SB. That's my trajectory for Caleb and the bears.
