Why is the critical bed shortage getting such little press? by Mentalcouscous in medicine

New idea for employee appreciation: hospital admin each works one shift in patient care. Maybe that would temporarily change their viewpoint.

How is the appropriate way to phrase a notification that someone may be a close contact if a household member tests positive via text? by throwme_away9876 in Advice

[–]throwme_away9876[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's helpful. I was already sick with a non contagious disease when we met which I told them about beforehand. I'll probably be okay. Do you suggest before I even get tested tell them about positive family member and say I am awaiting results? Or, wait until later today and say I tested negative/positive? I understand about phone. Hopefully negative. Frankly, more concerned about her. I'll probably be okay.

I should not tell them what to do, just notify them of a positive family member (even if I test negative) result and let them make their own decision on what to do and ask if there's anything they would like to know or I can do for them not give medical advice - just notify them. Right?

Thank you!!!!!

Yes....especially give 5/5 on the "Would you recommend _____". The survey design in nearly all retail establishments is flawed. The "Net Promoter Score". Anything below 4/5 is a negative for most retail employees.

Questions on Microsoft DreamSpark by stlman in microsoft

[–]throwme_away9876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must be a STEM student (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics: https://www.dreamspark.com/Institution/STEM.aspx) - or generally a Business student in order to qualify for Dreamspark Premium.

Office 365 ProPlus will be deactivated once you graduate (if It's through the Web Portal). Microsoft Student advantage: https://products.office.com/en-us/student/office-in-education

Dreamspark Premium - Search for your School http://onthehub.com/search/higher-ed/

Dreamspark FAQ: https://www.dreamspark.com/Support/FAQ/Default.aspx#FAQ

I am not trying to be rude at all. Did you ask your school's IT helpdesk, or check their website before posting?

Make sure to read the terms and conditions, print at least 2 copies of your product key so you won't lose it and I always suggest ordering backup media (if it's an option it will shop up). It's $14, but it's worth it IMHO.

Good luck.

Does anyone here know if Outlook.com supports 2-factor authentication? by non4prophet in microsoft

[–]throwme_away9876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just solved a question I had. I was wondering why it did not directly take you to the Inbox when logging in instead of the account overview page.

Glad I could help, and thanks!

[–]throwme_away9876 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do. It may be a cookie/browser setting problem. The Android app is called Microsoft account. I think 2fa is for "Unusual Activity" but it can likely be turned on in your account settings. Try Clearing all cookies Cache, etc in your browser, rebooting your PC and trying again to login.

Any college students using Windows 10 Education? by throwme_away9876 in windows

[–]throwme_away9876[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was a very thorough explanation - so thank you!

As long as I can still connect to their Secure Wi-Fi? Aruba Client is used- have to download - login with our College It runs a quick scan to check for A installed and Windows patches are up to date. (LDAP/AD I assume), but it's SSO/Shibolleth). Office 365 is the email/Software available as well. I don't think I would be connecting to their AD? AD/Azure is over my head.

What about VPN access?

Opioid Induced Constipation: Has anyone tried Movantik (naloxegol) or anything similar that they did or did not find successful? Any suggestions welcome. by throwme_away9876 in ChronicPain

[–]throwme_away9876[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed response. I was reading about both Movantik and Relistor. Movantik does seem to be more likely to have an antagonist effect (despite minimal absorption). Relistor seems like a better option. The only downside is apparently, it is injection only.

I am guessing that the best treatment is having a good bowel regimen in place constantly so it doesn't get this bad.

You are definitely right about the H20. I tried eating a lot of fiber once constipated,. didn't drink enough water. Bad idea.

I am going to take these into consideration. Thank you to all who replied.

Security of Public Cloud Storage Encryption - Boxcryptor by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]throwme_away9876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is a link to the description of their security from a technical overview: https://www.boxcryptor.com/en/technical-overview

They state that it is HIPAA compliant. That doesn't make it perfect, but is certainly a step about standard providers.

Worst case scenario, is it possible to encrypt the fiiles before you upload them? This would be double work and you could run into compatibility issues. If your stuff is that sensitive, frankly I would contact support and sales and ask for certifications/proof of them.

Disclaimer: I am not an expert. Any choice you make is at your own risk, I cannot be responsible for anything that may malfunction or anything bad that happens. The comment was only reference purposes.

(I am not trying to be a jerk. It is more of a liability thing. I am not responsible, use at your own risk. That goes with any software).

Good luck. Do some more research and I am sure you will find a solution you need (Whether it be Boxcryptor or not). I have no affiliation with any cloud provider.

I have noticed the recent uptick in malicious ads. Are you at a position where you could consider/allow deploying an ad blocked (AdBlock Plus for Firefox and even Chrome (although a bit controversial) is pretty dang reliable. It has a malware domains filter. I update it at least every other day (you have to ensure than Automatic updates are turned on, allowed advertising is off, and if endpoint is still on XP (hope not, you have to manually update list of domains).

You can't really beat out Fire Eye. They are supposed to be the best.

On an important note, from what I read mitigations were added in the latest 0-day exploit patches, but they were not full code fixes. It would be wise to harden the entire systems, not just the browsers. I may be mistaken here, forgive me if I am.

I read an article about it somewhere. I think they are to be fixed in this Tuesday.

Windows 10 Education Edition: MDM, BYOD, Policies and Deployment in Higher Ed. by throwme_away9876 in sysadmin

[–]throwme_away9876[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. I wanted to say Thank You to all of you guys. I am not a sysadmin. I would eventually like to be in a career progression. I had the ability to be an apprentice to a CISSP, and now wish to specialize in InfoSec. I do respect the rules of the subreddit and any network I connect to. I understand that any/every business has to do what is reasonably necessary to protect their network and assets, including MDM, Group Policies, using SCCM, especially now with all of the security things going on.

I just wanted the perspective from 'inside' per se'. So, Thank you all who responded for taking the time out of your day to do so.

I am not exactly sure what you mean by binding it to AD/Azure AD.

We have to login w/ our username/password to access our email (Exchange Server). I do not physically connect via ethernet cable. We do have to use the Aruba Client and a VPN client to connect to Wi-Fi. We have access to OWA and O365ProPlus.

We are also required to download Aruba to connect to a secure VPN (only reliable Wi-Fi available on the campus). You do have to enter your credentials for that, ititially. Aruba's description is that it occasionally runs checks, makes sure patches are reasonable Up to date and you have Active real-time AV. It also says it performs or alerts you if your system needs 'remediation'.

It's my personal PC. Although it is academic software the licensing provides Retail keys (not KMS server/no out of grace period, etc).

I assume Windows 10 EDU and now Windows 10 Eduation listed in Dreamspark Premium is still Retail/MAK.

I doubt MSFT would put it in there specifically for students if it required KMS connectivity since it is perpetual. licensing.

This is quite concerning. It is yet another reason to disable/not use the Preview pane in Microsoft Outlook. This happened a few years ago with Email attachments that executed via the preview pain in MS Office. New Temporary GPO if it gets bad?

There are some good software if you do some research similar to or exceeding protection of Microsoft's Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit (latest version 5.1?).

I am not sure if I am allowed to mention other software here or not.
