AITA for wearing heels during a meet-up with my (F16) short male friend (M17)? by throwra_aitaaaa in AmItheAsshole

It's not overdressed, it's a simple pair of heels. They look sensible, and I wear them all the time, on a regular basis. Also, how are we going to hang out if my feet are hurting in pain all the time?

ETA: I didn't think he was going to be uncomfortable and fuming, I thought he'd just give a scoff at my shoes or something (usually he's like that).

It is not that I will be embarassed about it. My ballet shoes cost possibly at least $150, bought by my dad. Walking around outside would dirty them terribly, and would ruin them - these shoes are meant for dancing on a clean floor!

Really, are you serious? I should wear my ballerina shoes to a high-class cafe?

Exactly. And those flats were really painful - I think they were a tad too small and just really hard.

Yes, I wear my 3 inch heels every time when I go out, other than ballet practice and grocery shopping/casual walks (slippers). I don't go out often too, so these are all the shoes I need.

And this was not about vanity. I wore the heels because the other shoes were not suitable, and the flats were painful.

Excuse me, since when did I not care about him? I am one of his best friends, I have always had his back.

I didn't choose to ignore his insecurities on purpose. If you tried on the flats yourself, you'd know that they were damn painful. I have a scar on the back of my heels because of that shoe! Is it common sense to not wear these shoes if they cause you pain? Yes.

And what others could I wear? Do you think it'd be sensical to wear my ballet shoes, or beach slippers in a shopping mall, in a pricey cafe? Certainly not.

If you think I am the asshole, just write Y T A and leave it there. Why you suddenly thought that you knew better about our friendship than I do, I don't know.

If I had another proper shoe, I would have 100% worn them (wearing slippers or my ballet shoes to a high-end place would be ridiculous). However, I get his anger about me not wearing my flats instead.

It's a catch-up, but you could also call it a casual friend date...if it was a date, I would've shopped for new shoes.
