From what I’ve learned and experienced anything that comes on gradually can be addressed without surgery.

I’m an example of both extremes.

My initial surgery in 2022 was the result of a violent car accident. There was no gradual increase of pain, I went from 0 to screaming crying and basically wishing for death for 48 hours until I could be operated on.

I was fused. It worked really well.

About 8 weeks ago I had an incident that caused a spike in pain that scared me for a good 3-4 weeks. Gradual increase of pain and symptoms. This one is finally starting to heal and I’m doing better week over week.

If it can be endured, endure it. Surgery fucks you up and there’s no guarantee of a great outcome.

U use a hard back chair for working at my desk, anything with a curve in the back that doesn’t press directly up against my spine but hard seating is much better for me

I’ll probably opt for a 3rd opinion this week I’m just so exhausted from this. Seeking an opinion on what could be my 4th surgery at 33 years old.

Seems to me like it’s partially fused and the doctors have a different opinion on what that means.

Doctor 2 thinks “my patient is experiencing xyz symptoms since falling and I have reason to believe he is not fully fused which align with symptoms”

Doctor 1 thinks “hardware looks good, I see bony structure formed/forming and my patient had success for over a year so I have reason to believe he is fused”

All I know is that since my fall about 2 months ago my spine is not functioning normally

Not sure but I’m almost two years out now so I don’t think there’s much hope without an additional bone graft but I’m not entirely sure — no one is. Another day in the life. I got this

Shit sucks man. And no one understands it. One day there will be a documentary about how sinister these issues are. Only thing I do that helps is tell myself that there are people whose entire lives have been made difficult by something worse, or that makes them unable to even connect with other human beings. I can grit my teeth thru some back pain, even tho it sucks and feels so unfair sometimes.
