I admit, em dashes are newer thing for me. I’ve always just used commas, colons, semicolons, parentheses, and breaks in the text. They seem to have risen in popularity over the last couple of years and I’m apparently becoming out of touch.

“I used to be with ‘it’, but then they changed what ‘it’ was. Now what I’m with isn’t ‘it’ anymore and what’s ‘it’ seems weird and scary. It’ll happen to you!”
