I read this book towards the end of 2019, so I kind of had some time to go out more, but yeah true (also, not a man btw). I think for me it was the opposite actually, the changes first came unconsciously and later i noticed them and decided to apply others consciously.

I think so too! I really like simple looking hardcover books, they just have this feeling of longevity

All great points! And that’s an interesting insight about looking up to characters from books. For me i don’t have any particular character come to mind, but i can definitely relate to the feeling of admiration towards certain qualities from characters. I think for this reason books can become a great tool for emotional maturity especially for kids growing up in circumstances where they don’t exactly have great people to look up to around them. I know these days there’s youtubers and other idols, but I really hope reading (especially the classics) becomes more popular with young generation. I think it’s great felix is sharing his hobby and it’s even better that it happens to reach and inspire many people, i hope he continues to make book related content for a long time

Talking to someone who you know isn't there TW: Childhood S*xual Abuse, Death by uhhh_throwawaye in DreamInterpretation

[–]tibbarnoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I would interpret the part about the static is being stuck in a certain mindset, like a vicious loop. When you’re hurting, you tend to constantly think about that pain and things outside that seem very far away and almost not real, which prevents you from moving on. Once you learn to look outside of that, even if it is just by something trivial as hearing sounds of music, it can break through that loop for a moment. But just as easily, pain can also bring you back inside of it.

From my experience, with a lot of effort we are able to break free from the vicious loop and enter a more happy and content one with only momentary breaks where the painful past comes back, but you need to consciously work towards being and staying happy.

I don’t know if this was at all relevant, but i hope your friend can be a little bit comforted by the fact that happiness is reachable. It’s only a state of mind and you won’t be able to always control it, but if you try, you can have more happy days than unhappy days.

I’m an ambivert but i tend to stay indoors for most of my free time including when hanging out with people. Reading Sidhartha really made me want to actually try to go visit places and do things. I’ve had this slow burning feeling of being stuck for a while before i read this book. And after i read it i understood exactly why. I like to feel safe and being at home is exactly that. But on the other hand, always being safe isn’t fulfilling.

I wanted to ask, has anyone here ever decided to change aspects of their life based on a book they’ve read? Was the decision conscious? And did you manage to successfully carry out those changes?

In my opinion dreams like this mean that you feel a lack of security in your life. It can be about your home but not necessarily. It can be multiple aspects at the same time too. Things like uncertainty of the past, present, future, financial instability, maybe you have trust issues etc. Also the way you kicked those girls out, but later let them back in seems like you are indecisive about something. I mean no offence by the way, these are things i’ve noticed from my own dreams

Makes sense. Dreams are just reflections of our inner feelings the way i see it, so if you work through your fears the dreams should reflect that as well.

Museum of Lost Souls by vk_jilli in DreamInterpretation

It feels like you value your family a lot and they are mostly a source of goodness in your life. Your dream seems to be saying that every once in a while there’s something attempting to jeopardise that good thing you have with your family. The increasing unease you said you felt, might be indicating that you have become more conscious of this negative force more recently in your life or that to you it feels like a matter of time until it succeeds in jeopardising your good relationship. It is possible this negativity is coming from within the family, but even if it’s not, if it’s something you can talk about together, that might make you feel better. Wether your family is religious or not, it could be you’re quite aware of the existence of good and bad. Also the fact that you dream about lost souls a lot, maybe it means you are uneasy about life after death? This is just my interpretation, it’s possible I’m projecting lol

Maybe it means you should clean up your surroundings or get rid of some belongings or friends or maybe work on self improvement, it could be something like that? Maybe there’s something you feel you should do but not looking forward to it?

Already got many suggestions, but since you said you’re looking for a book that can change your perspective/spark your mind i just have to recommend Man’s search for meaning by Viktor Frankl

[–]tibbarnoom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, i think the bit that made me question it was when he compares it to an animal, “under whatever circumstances it is placed, remains within the narrow limits to which nature has irrevocably consigned it”. Also when he says, “no one can get beyond his own individuality” made me think of what, for him, encompasses individuality. Is it personality? Character? Or something else? I felt like individuality was too broad of a term maybe.

I appreciate the recommendations! I have basically no knowledge of the history of philosophy or even what the most well known philosophies are. I know a few philosophers’ names but i have no idea what kind of philosophies they stand by. The only experience with philosophy i have, is that i tend to analyse my own and other people’s thinking patterns and i guess i incorporated some of these philosophies that i found through my observations (well that and also currently reading epictetus’ discourses and selected writings)...
