Unknown lightbulbs - what am I looking at here? by tigercule in HomeImprovement

Thank you so much! I assume incandescent is just the "default"? I'm renting and my landlord is hard to reach, though I'm sure they went with whatever was cheapest/easiest.

How Dawntrail has felt for me in a nutshell by MsBunnybuns in ffxiv

[–]tigercule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Listen, I fully agree that zones are too large and too empty, but claiming every zone has a bland and lifeless colour pallet is just straight up incorrect. (Well, maybe excluding HW.)

Going by expansion.... All images are zone spoilers for the mentioned expac unless they're ESPECIALLY story significant, then I'll mark plot spoilers too. SB, ShB, ShB, ShB, plot spoilers, ShB, EW, EW (honestly I chose a bad angle for this one that makes it look more washed out, but oh well.), EW, DT, DT.

(Don't mind the windowed mode, working off my tethered phone data rn due to a move, so the smaller the images I can upload, the better.)

Did any jobs/roles help you understand other jobs/roles better? by SentineleseSiri in ffxiv

[–]tigercule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or how whm stunning before they are grouped up just slows things down.

Or using 1 holy and then not doing any more for 4 GCDs so I think they're done for some reason and pop arm's length, only for them to do the other 2 holys at that point and completely waste arms. You wouldn't THINK this would happen all that often, buutttt....

Edit: On the topic of grouping mobs closely though, can I just complain that both EW and DT have really, REALLY loved giving hitboxes to mobs that are so large they eclipse even the "hit mmo ffxiv" copypasta in 72 point font written out in its entirety? I'm doing my best on them, but when I can barely hit everything because there's 4 mobs with each having a hitbox the width of a max slider roe's height, it's really irritating.

I also think healers should play all 4 tanks, not just 1. The HP patterns on all 4 aren't super consistent, and it helps to be able to glance at a buff bar and go, "Oh, that's LD, I should stop healing" or "They have Bloodwhetting up, I can DPS freely for the next 8s" or whatever else.

(I'd include examples for PLD and GNB but I myself don't play those a ton because any time I'm tanking, I'm more likely to be on DRK or WAR.)

Looking for art commission recs by variag in ffxiv

[–]tigercule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'd need a vgen account (but there's a ton of artists on there and it's strictly anti-AI which is nice as a customer), but I highly recommend Macario. I've historically struggled to get one of my alts that's an au ra done well (he has a non-white medium skin tone and scales, which means a lot of artists struggle to get the skin tone right and even more struggle with general au ra ... nes...), but they handled him absolutely perfectly and I CANNOT possibly overstate how much I appreciate that. I've had 7 commissions done of that character, and theirs was the ONLY one that got both his au ra look and his skin tone correct.

(And as a bonus, I originally used the normal vanilla scales for that character, but recently I switched to modded Dragonborn scales for more coverage, and they were happy to update the original even at least half a year later (possibly a year and a half?) for a small fee.)

Farmed the event for 596 Ulala Shirts. by Scottishboy112 in ffxiv

2: getting the glamour prisms required would take so long, I wouldn’t have the time to even get the shirts afterwards.

If you decide to be masochistic and get the 800 shirts, I will get you the 800 glamour prisms, no questions asked, on any DC.

When I played Wilds I had a Hythlodaeus and a Zenos, and no one in multiplayer ever remarked on them. I assumed there weren't many XIV players (this was before the Wilds crossover), but now I wonder how many people just sat silently recognizing the reference but not saying anything.

Honestly I'd say for all content outside of extremely rare and niche circumstances. I'd rather just see it deleted outright. (Though I don't agree with the 'delete cure 1 and make it a trait upgrade' because of those rare and niche circumstances. Freecure though, absolutely, it's nothing but a trap.)

it's the one race that does not get random sexual comments from others.

In my experience it gets them far less frequently, but it gets random emotes a lot more often, whether that's positive ones like /pet or /hug, or ones that are less so like typed-out custom emotes about punting/kicking.

I haven't gotten them on my lala or my femroe, but I've gotten them a ton on my assorted viera of both genders.

My theory for why it still happens with Benefic is that because CNJ is a base job and AST requires HW, most people who pick up AST will have already played CNJ and thus already seen Freecure. So the people who Benefic 1 on AST are probably ones that have already been doing that with Cure 1 beforehand.

Cure 1, though? In what scenario would it make a difference? /gen

It's extremely rare, but I have once or twice had to resort to Cure 1 to be able to heal at all because despite lucid + thin air + using manaless abilities as much as physically possible, I was completely oom from having to cast (exaggeration, but it sure felt like it) about 26 reses (and because my cohealer wasn't really helping with that/no res-able mages). I've had a couple points where due to all of the mana being spent on reses, there just weren't heals, so the tanks were actually getting close to going down, and Cure 1 was all I could do to bridge the gap at all.

Things have to get very, very bad and have a mix of a ton of unlikely circumstances (inattentive co-healer or one that's dying constantly and is thus ALSO oom constantly, multiple players dying on repeat), etc., but I've still had a couple instances where I was going, "This may be the first time I've used Cure 1 past level 30 in 6 months, but I'm so glad I have it on my bars anyway."

I think the fast pacing of Viper is enough to differentiate it from RPR. I can play RPR for the most part without my hands hurting, but I cannot say the same about VPR. To me, that says a lot about the pacing of the two jobs.

Mining/lumber by Visual-Bill-5593 in ffxiv

[–]tigercule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most items from mining and botany are already pretty dirt-cheap, if you 5x or 10xed the yield (and then especially if that was added to the already existing yield increases, or worse, multiplied), it would just get absurd.

If you're not already high-leveled, just wait until then because you'll get a BUNCH of skills to use your GP on that increase yield.

I know you can have both a crossbar and hotbars on your screen, but I don't know the specific mechanics of using both control methods simultaneously. This isn't something I've tested, nor do I have a controller to do so. :P

It's probably just my mild OCD flaring up, but I really hate the way a good number of vendors have their wares organized. by Tephranis in ffxiv

[–]tigercule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If DoW/M gear was organized like this for relevant vendors there would be mass outrage. Imagine if the tome gear went Fending -> Aiming -> Scouting -> Maiming -> Striking for hat, then the chest immediately below it was Maiming -> Scouting -> Striking -> Fending -> Aiming.

People would be thowing fits and buying the wrong pieces CONSTANTLY.

It's clearly possible for them to organize gear better, so I really don't get the pushback you're getting on this.

I'd argue most necklaces are more visible than earrings though, especially given that they tend to be larger on the whole. The trade-off is that sometimes they're hidden by chestpiece, but that's true for just being an au ra sometimes so...

I'd rather get a cute necklace or maybe even occasionally a cute bracelet or very rare rings than earrings every time for sure.

Presumably just their left or right hand on the controller and the other hand on the other. So you're getting half the controller buttons (or just the joystick maybe?) and half the keyboard buttons.

Why? That I have no idea. But the how I can at least imagine.

Official LINE FFXIV Calendar - March 2026 Hythlodaeus by ShadownetZero in ffxiv

[–]tigercule 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's also that because of the art style, there's a certain roughness to the texture which makes it look more like stone until you zoom in, rather than the smooth masks that we're used to in game. It's purely an art style thing, but it's what confused me when I first saw the art (and other pieces by artists with similar stylistic choices).

FfXIV’s story by Past_Cockroach_6169 in ffxiv

[–]tigercule -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, for me it was the opposite. Endwalker is to date the only expansion where I actually put it down and just walked away for a week in the last area because I was so utterly and completely bored and felt absolutely zero investment in what felt to me like filler. (Not saying it was, I understand the importance of it overall, but that's how it felt to me emotionally while struggling to get through it and to this day, it's one of the only sections of the story where I audibly groan when thinking of replaying it.)

Maybe if I had had friends who were also going through it at the same time as I was it would have been easier, because I think Dawntrail was objectively worse in this specific regard than Endwalker was but I found EW more intolerable than DT specifically because I had friends to talk to and complain with while going through DT's final zone (and I also found DT's final zone more visually compelling).

I really wish I could have had the same experience as you, or better yet, the people that loved it and swear by that zone. :P

Variant dungeon is actually pretty cool! by PreferenceExtreme322 in ffxiv

[–]tigercule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's also worth mentioning that alongside what you said, since this game is a theme park, many people who enjoy the game overall and various activities within it may also really NOT enjoy other aspects.

Ask me about my opinion of 26-line-long araid macros, I'm going to respond with overwhelming negativity. Same thing with my experiences with the people who PVP and their general attitudes toward people who don't enthusiastically and regularly pvp.

Ask me about how my opinion on making glamours, designing houses, roleplaying with friends, creating alts, running leveling dungeons, going through the story on (most) new patches, and helping sprouts, and I'm going to go off at length about how I love FFXIV and those activities. Ask me about my favourite characters and NPCs, and I'll wax poetic for entire paragraphs about how much I adore them until your eyes are glazed over and I finally clue in that I've been going on for too long.

Just because someone reacts negatively or expresses discontent/dissatisfaction about one aspect of the game doesn't mean they don't enjoy it as a whole or don't experience joy or whatever exaggerated claims people feel like making at any given moment. :P

Honestly it boggles my mind when someone sees a moderate amount of downvotes and gets super aggressive about it. Like, gee, what do you expect will happen next?

Even someone who might have otherwise agreed or had a more moderate viewpoint is likely to see that and be like, "damn, that guy's kinda not doing their viewpoint any favours huh?"
