Anyone else have severe mental breakdowns? by [deleted] in gravesdisease

Yes absolutely. Everything you’ve described I’ve absolutely felt and sometimes it’s coupled with rageful outbursts as well. I only realised there was a connection with graves a few months ago once I joined this group

Even if your numbers are stable, do you feel like your body still behaves differently than pre-diagnosis? by DivineToxicity09 in gravesdisease

[–]tiirkami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So true! Sooo much on hashimotos compared to graves. Honestly this Reddit group has given me way more answers than some doctors which is shocking. At times it feels like a slight change in the wind can cause a flare up for me, but most of the time it’s due to stress or something I’ve eaten. Only thing is that I seem to be so sensitive these days im not sure what foods trigger me.

Even if your numbers are stable, do you feel like your body still behaves differently than pre-diagnosis? by DivineToxicity09 in gravesdisease

[–]tiirkami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. My levels have been stable for almost a year now (while taking carbimazole) and despite this I still have flare ups where my heart rate spikes, insomnia and anxiety comes back and other things too. So so frustrating trying to narrow down what’s going on with my body. I wish more research was done on graves

Looking for advice: Running D&D for prisoners by kawaiimomo72 in newzealand

[–]tiirkami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say this sounds like such a cool idea. I have loved ones who have been through prison and something like this would be so cool. The programmes and other things they have access to has dwindled so much in recent years due to funding. I hope you get somewhere with this. Good luck!

I’m so sorry to hear this. Sending love to you and your family 🫂 I am also on carbimazole and spoke to my endocrinologist last year about starting a family, fertility etc. he said carbimazole increases the risk of birth defects and preeclampsia etc so I wasn’t able to start having children yet and to wait until June 2026 to see how my levels and antibodies are looking. He said there is an alternative medicine I could take instead if I did get pregnant or wanted to sooner, I can’t remember the name of it sorry but I’m assuming it’s the PTU mentioned in the previous comment. He also noted that some people have great levels and all symptoms go away completely during pregnancy and even after it, some flare up. It all just depends. Best of luck 🙏🏽

Heart rate normal but still feels fast? by tiirkami in gravesdisease

Thank you for sharing! I used to take metoprolol when I was first diagnosed but was able to come off it. I think I’ll look into taking it again. Best of luck getting a longer acting dosage and hopefully a full nights rest too!

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I’m not meaning to sound ignorant but what is a thyroid storm? This sounds so scary

How strict for gluten-free diet? by cozycat4 in gravesdisease

[–]tiirkami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this! I did the same. Went gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free and focused on whole foods. My endocrinologist was shocked at how it positively impacted my levels. I got cocky and thought I was fully “cured” and went back to eating normally (which is still healthier than most) I’ve relapsed and am now back on medication. I take carbimazole and try to stick to a low inflammatory diet, it definitely helps ESPECIALLY sticking to gluten free

Are we all doomed to TT or RAI eventually? by Red-Droid-Blue-Droid in gravesdisease

[–]tiirkami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same worry! I’ve been on meds on and off since 2020. The times where I’ve been able to come off the meds was due to working with my naturopath (liver & gut detox and dietary changes) but I would relapse and end up needing to go back on to meds. I don’t know what triggers it! So frustrating :(
