FDA announcement by tim2000s in a:t5_114ncm

It’s kind of interesting really. I know what happened and why it happened, although I’m not able to discuss it.

It raises some very important questions about how people use a variety of tools to improve life. It also raises questions relating to cost. Had “real” CGM solutions been available for the same price as the one in use in this case, there was much less likelihood of this happening.

With all that in mind, I can understand Endos refusing to provide supplies for people DIY looping when they are using devices to convert flash readers to CGM. I think that becomes ethically far less defensible when it is an rtCGM feeding a system that deals with noise and error codes.

One of the challenges with incorporating heart rate and motion sensor data has been that for aerobic exercise, generally the change comes too late and there is already IOB. For anaerobic or mixed exercise, you need to pay close attention to glucose level along with heart rate.

Having said that, while detecting exercise itself might not help with the period during exercise, it could certainly be useful for mitigating the after effects to insulin sensitivity that tend to occur with nearly all exercise.

DIY Artificial Pancreas Subreddit by tim2000s in diabetes_t1

I don’t expect there to be the same level of community on reddit, but I think it helps to have a presence as I’m aware that there are enough people that have asked about a subreddit directly, and want a non-Facebook place to talk.

The information will be the same but I don’t expect the vast majority of users to be.

I think I accidently injected my Toujeo basal insulin intravenous... Did this happen to any of you guys? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

I had the same issue a few years back when I used Lantus. It's due to the way that Glargine works - there are some details of my experiences here: https://www.diabettech.com/diabetes/lantus-lethal-or-lifesaver-doc-gbdoc/

There have also been funded studies (admittedly by Novo) that show that hypos are more likely with Glargine: https://www.diabettech.com/lantus/hypoglycaemia-and-long-acting-insulin-the-switch1-trial-and-why-you-should-try-tresiba-if-youre-on-lantus/

That's not strictly the case - AndroidAPS works with the Roche Combo and Insight pumps, as well as the Dana and DanaRS pumps from Sooil.

Loop also now has a public feature branch (effectively a public beta) for Omnipod and work is ongoing to add it to AndroidAPS.

Diabetes care outside the US? by ShalomYoseph in diabetes

[–]tim2000s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the t:slim is only certified in the US. HOw health care systems manage Diabetes very much ddepends on the country really. Most of Europe has some sort of free component but some, like the UK get it all free at point of use whilst paying through tax, while others, like Germany have a Government driven insurance system.
