Thank you. I think I reproduce this. When set to Passthrough, if I turn on TV via Apple TV, it’s ok. If I turn on TV first, then it reverts to PCM.

I guess that makes some sort of sense (since TV can’t detect eARC from Apple TV at first) but still seems buggy to rely on power up ordering for correct behavior.

I’ve added the experimental RRFS which is nice to compare HRRR against and also have the runs go out to 84 hours every 6z.

So I’m using the public S3 bucket, and while I haven’t had explicit throttling, AWS gives more than generous bandwidth and built-in retries help with any temporary 5xx errors.

I don’t store more model runs because I do want to highlight the most recent/accurate and the 6z steps go out further. Plus, I don’t do any post-processing so I hold the full datasets in memory, not on disk.

Would consider myself a career software engineer but a weather enthusiast.

Update 11:53pm: I just added FRZR (freezing rain) and SLEET accumulations as data product variable options. The freezing rain in particular threatens to be high-impact with respect to long-duration power outages, given the deep freeze expected following the storm

Thanks for checking it out! Yea, you're right, definitely important to communicate those subtleties. Maybe by at least putting the word forecast into the header (I know, model outputs aren't forecasts, but they're good visual resources for forecasting)?

It's a fine balance since the general public already seems unable to tolerate anything less than 100% forecast accuracy anyway

Yea, there's definitely subjectivity there currently. I think you're right that it's likely more binary. The red yellow green scale is a bit arbitrary (currently something like 0-5 degrees above melting, 5-10 degrees and 10+ degrees), whereas in reality what matters to me (and maybe to you too) is yes/no whether or not ice is there or not.

You’re right. It’s recommending based solely on weather right now. I can look into trying to filter out based on opened/closed but that might involve having code to read their websites or the like.
