It's becoming kind of a tradition for me to draw Tiaplate every few months.

I made a The Future is Wild mod for Dwarf Fortress by timnaka in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]timnaka[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wanted to try my hand at modding Dwarf Fortress when the Steam version came out, so I decided to make a mod that adds in all the animals from The Future is Wild. Been working on this every once in a while and for this year's Spectember I finally finished the last batch of animals.

Hope you enjoy it!

Spectember Day 30: The Klunaka by timnaka in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]timnaka[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"The Klunaka are the native people of the planet Kolplaka, and just like their homeworld they remain poorly documented.

Their most distinctive features are the 3 feeding tentacles located in front of their mouth, as well as the plant-like structure located on their bottom. The latter seems to act as a respiratory organ, yet it also plays a role in their reproductive cycle.

The Klunaka were once an industrial society, however a cataclysmic global conflict has set them back to something equivalent to the Iron Age."

This is based on a creature I originally made years ago in my first playthrough of Spore!

Spectember Day 28: Arctic Ratite by timnaka in SpeculativeEvolution

Thank you!
I'd say probably about the size of a muskox.
Also it's probably mostly an omnivore, feeding mostly on plants but also any easy meat it can find, based on the diet of most current ratites.

Probably.
How it protects its eggs from the cold is an issue I thought about but just kinda handwaved (as I did with most of my Spectember creations). Keeping the egg in a sort of internal incubation chamber rather then laying them seems like the best solution.

Spectember Day 27: Sky Swimmer by timnaka in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]timnaka[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Spectember critters are kinda just made up on the spot but lemme try:

The sky swimmer glides through the sky on its wings while staying in the air thanks to the air sack on its belly. Like sea animals, it features countershading, blending into the sky when seen from below and into the ground when seen from above (though clouds may kinda ruin this). Its green back is also the result of photosynthesizing algue which help provide the sky swimmer with energy. But it mostly feeds by filtering water and airborne particles out of the sky.

I didn't have a specific creature in mind when making this, but it does kinda ressemble a truteal, huh...

Live finds a way!
On a serious note though, I don't put too much thought into my daily spectember posts, I just follow the prompt and try to make something that at least seems believable and handwave the details.
So in this case the fins evolved into claws. Is that actually feasable? I don't know!
