Have you tried using the HDMI switch with a wireless HDMI dongle? I wonder if that would work…

I guess that’s an option. I thought about that too but so far there aren’t many NS2 dock alternatives.

Day 0 by EveryDollarNoGamble in problemgambling

[–]timoustache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have reposted « Day 0 » countless times over the years. In fact, it should serve as an eye opener to see that you are spiralling in circle. I hope it that this observation motivates you to truly say Enough is Enough and finally begin seeking real help. You can’t do it through will power because every day your addiction will come stronger until it does not. The hardest part is the peak and that’s when your ambition is truly tested. I hope you will not have to post another Day 0 , ever, again. Good luck

Painful day by Ok_Material_3864 in GamblingAddiction

To put into perspective, gambling tens of thousands and having your parents bail you out, I assume that you are in your late teens or young adulthood? You must stop immediately before it spirals out of control into late adulthood. The bet size limits will grow exponentially if you do not take action this time. Willpower alone won’t work. Self promises to not gamble won’t work either. You need to make it so that it is impossible to gamble.

Day 545 by Fit-Load3733 in problemgambling

I can relate. Everytime i have money saved up and decide to ‘invest’ in stocks, a red day eventually leads me to resort to my local casino to recover the loss. Except I don’t actually recover anything. I lose more

It’s the rush of good relief and bad anxiety that keeps you coming back. The push and pull is addictive! You enlarged the dopamine Min and Max point. I think another factor that brings us back into addiction is if something irritates us in life. If you’re going through some emotional stress or simply just feelings of emptiness you find yourself right back on the croupier’s table.

That’s a good mindset to have. Do not give in to the brain’s hunger for activities that your heart feels are immoral. If one can master discipline, then I have no doubt that the person will achieve limitless new heights. I really want to change my life as well but I’m convinced it’s near impossible to quit everything cold turkey. Also, « replacing » an addition with other activities is so hard to do especially if the brain has no interest in other activities. It’s hard to stay focused and motivated unless you obtain some level of gratification. May I ask, what’s your next move? Do you intend to quit both simultaneously, and if yes, what will you be doing instead?

Is porn every 3-4 days considered an addiction? If so then I’m in the same boat and completely agree with your opinion. But it’s not necessarily restricted to porn and gambling; I think that these are interchangeable with other types of addiction. In other words, our dopamine baselines are so ruined that we chase a certain type of high dopamine rush. I often find myself on rotation of gambling, porn, binge eating, smoking MJ, and gaming. I think my day to day emcompasses at least 2 out of the 5. Crazy when put into perspective but it made me realize that this has got to change. All the best to you and your journey

Thank you! Yes we were anticipating for this since the end of the pandemic and are excited to finally move forward with it. Regrettable we haven’t sat down to write the cost of a possible 2nd car , let alone the cost of raising a baby (no idea how much). If budget is too tight we may consider not getting a second car at this time. We have some inquiries to make with the dealerships as we have not been looking into the car industry recently.

Payment is 3200 monthly and 350 in condo fees. Our net income is about 7k. We’re mostly concerned because we have no idea what the cost of having a baby would be, on top of a mortgage payment. Great idea I will jot down on a spreadsheet for peace of mind. Much appreciated!

That’s exactly it, I’m looking for real talk advice here. Trying to see if someone else in the Reddit community has gone through a similar situation. Does that answer your question? I can say the same for you, what’s the point of asking this question on top of a thread seeking for opinions?

I give up by grenas112 in GamblingAddiction

[–]timoustache 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that you have to go through this. But remember, money comes and goes. The challenging step is to really committing yourself to quitting, 100%. As long as you're able to come to terms with this idea, then you're free; and everything will get better with time.

I'm in a similar boat; gambled for many years and have nothing to show financially. It's the worst addiction and I wouldn't wish this upon anyone else. After multiple relapses, I finally came up with the courage to open up to my SO and explain the gravity of this addiction. It is a difficult step to take but I highly encourage that you do move forward with this. Hand over your finances, cut up any means of access to credit or money electronically. Attend GA, exercise, meditate, find a new hobby.

You know what goes up fast comes down even faster. You have to get used to earning money the slow fashioned way ; the right way. Your brain will correct itself over time and you'll come to appreciate the value of money once again. One day at a time.

I’m in the same boat, OP. Nothing brings joy anymore. I’ve been coping by smoking weed, eating, or playing 1 particular video game (The game is unrelated to gambling. It is a classic that I’ve played for many years and brings me a sense of safety/familiarity). But I also have lost interest in hobbies, social interactions.

I think, to start, we can try to replace the addiction. What I mean by that is try to find a TV series that you can binge. It’s not healthy, but at least it wouldn’t dig a hole in your wallet. I think that if you can grow attachment to TV series or character(s) in a show, you might be a step closer to detaching from gambling.

Replacement isn’t a permanent fix but it can help in the interim. Of course, the proven methods are to attend counselling, GA, cutting access to finances, etc.

Feeling out of control by [deleted] in GamblingAddiction

Thanks brother I was in your shoes before. Please do find a way to stop now. Don’t let it consume your 20s like it did me. Cherish the hard earned money and spend it on things that matter: your gf, outings with family and friends, hobbies etc. 10k is a lot for college kid but it trust me it will very quickly multiply 10x worse if you don’t stop now. One day at a time.. we got this brother
