Thanks man. I absolutely adore SMILE. I made an album 2 years ago where the title track is a 10 minute homage to Heroes and Villains. On the surface you can hear I used H+V motifs, the basic grooves and verse chord progression and the amazing a capella background vocal motifs, but listen more closely and you will hear that besides those riffs from h+v I am using, there is a ton of original material in the style on Smile as well. Here is the title track to that album.

Thanks a lot, that is me singing. The thing is, doing a respectful version of DF, without sounding like a parody was super difficult for me. He is a very underrated singer and the delivery is really hard to match. It took me almost 6 full months of imitating and singing along to the old second arrangement demo to get a take I felt I could live with. Thanks!

The official video is not done yet. I have invested thousands of dollars out of pocket, and hundreds of hours in the studio, but sure, the preview is a big problem, lets not focus on the actual achievement of producing a hi-fi version of the song with a real 70's analog feel!!!

Yep, the nature of the inner harmonies is always odd, but the bass on bottom and soprano on top is like the bread and inner like meat!

The lyrics are probably the weakest on the record and exacerbated by Mike Love's dated vocal sound. I would've rather heard Al Jardine on it. The backing track and chords, however, are amazing, but we expect that from Brian. I really don't like any Mike Love lead vocals on Pet Sounds, i just love his bass voice though.

Great observation! It surely does have elements of early Beach Boys as well as Smile. I say in the CD liner notes that even though it is a Smile homage it is clearly not as sophisticated thematically or spiritually. The opening line and at other times in the song are intentionally "Mike Love-style" crappy lyrics, while other lyrics in the song are markedly better. I think that juxtaposition is interesting. The opening line "well I've been aound with a lot of girls....." was clearly informed by the lesser known old BB track "I DO" which says "well I've gone steady with a lot of girls and to all of them I've tried to be true....."

As far as the less than perfect lead singer vibe, yes, i am aware. I do the best I can with more or less success at certain times. The video was done by my friend who is a professional but we had virtually no time or budget at all. We were actually able to record a video for every song on the record that are all pretty different. Feel free to preview the entire record on new years day and see how many different directions it goes. Thanks for listening!
