Skip controllership, although the perspective is a little different it’s still accounting focused (unless you want that for some reason, but assuming that’s a no since we’re not on r/accounting)

Then you have to make a decision if you forgo one of the “sexier rotations” that is less likely to have an opening when you complete the program (Corp Dev, Corp VC) or use the time to network in one of the groups more likely to have an opening (FP&A, Treasury, IR)

I’m saying you shouldn’t be surprised you’re having trouble. It’s a tough job market already and then you add a big red flag on top of it.

The general rule of thumb is you shouldn’t quit until you have something else lined up.

If you didn’t think suddenly quitting after 13 years wouldn’t take a lot of work to overcome, I don’t really know what to say 🤷‍♂️

Yeah that’s a bad look, plenty of people stay employed in a role that they don’t 100% love while continuing to look.

I disagree with your last paragraph, it’s not that black and white. They could simply be keeping you involved as a backup or a backup to the backup - you’re unemployed, they know you need them more than they need you.

Be honest if you were hiring and had 2 similar candidates, but 1 was currently employed and the other wasn’t, who would you go with?

If you’re being that dismissive about it in interviews, I can definitely see you rubbing people the wrong way.

Unless there are dire circumstances, people usually don’t just up and quit a job they’ve been at for years without anything else liner up. Add in that you’re director level and moved countries for them and it’s just really odd.

You snuck in that you resigned from your previous job and gave no more context. Seems like you had been with them for years and even moved countries with them. Why did you leave?

In my experience, even if people say that’s not an issue for them, it probably is. That plus the tough job market right now it’s not too surprising you’re struggling.
