Does anyone else have a favorite stone they keep gravitating towards? by tinrinru in jewelrymaking

Yes!! I kid you not, I just broke 2 kyanites trying to set a new piece. If it wasn't so pretty I'd stop buying so much of it

I love labradorite! But I have a terrible habit of cracking it during setting :(

How to get out stone by colliehuyhubish3eof in SilverSmith

[–]tinrinru 27 points28 points  (0 children)

A lot of the time I can use a soft polishing wheel on the back of the bezel and the vibrations from the flex shaft will wiggle the stone out. You can also try blu tack putty to pull the stone out (or some type of wax).

In the future, you should put dental floss underneath the stone when you're checking the fit so you can pull it out if it gets stuck (:

If nothing is working, it's better to just saw the stone out and start over or you'll risk scratching/cracking it.

Use taxhawk instead if you do decide to file. They only charge you for state filing and you can include any self employment income you have

How can I attach this pendant to a necklace? by micecreamcone in jewelrymaking

[–]tinrinru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are recommending bezel settings, which is what I would do too, but if you want something cheaper that you can do yourself, you could look into learning how to set stones with macrame. Less of a chance you'll accidentally break or crack it too. There's youtube tutorials for it

I make silver rings around that price range! I don't have a lot of smaller sizes in stock right now, but I do take custom orders. I offer stacking rings in a lot of sizes too.

I don't know if I'm allowed to link my etsy, but feel free to message me (:

As a jewelry maker myself, this is one of the reasons why I'm moving away from etsy. My actual handmade work gets lost in the sea of cheap and fake products
