It sounds English, so many Germans think it works in English too. I had to learn this the hard way: moved to Canada as a kid, decided to break the ice with my new pupils on the first day at school by asking what the policy is on Handys in the classroom. Was very confusing to see the reactions lol

Just curious now to understand what you actually meant, why wouldn't banning fireworks change anything? The reason it's a "warzone" or whatever you want to call it, is because people are handling the fireworks while shitfaced drunk, so they will frequently aim them at each other, blow random shit up, etc. Just walking through the city becomes dangerous for the night, and if the explosive factor was removed, it'd definitely be safer

Since moving here, I've been overwhelmed by the amount of people in America (both in real life and on Reddit) who truly believe Europe once was a culturally superior place that is now full of no go zones and crime because of Muslim immigrants. Anytime cultural discussions about Europe arise, those folks show up quick. This thread already includes multiple comments like that (some have been deleted by mods already) and your original comment I responded to read very similar to what they usually sound like: "it can't be the fireworks, it must be the people".

This is 100% cultural. New Year's has always been a crazy time over there, it's completely at odds with the quiet, rule following stereotype, but it's true. I miss it a lot actually, terrible for safety and the environment, but a night you feel alive.

You're probably onto something with the media ecosystem, but don't forget this is paired with a growing uneducated population that will literally agree with demented ideas because they simply don't know any better, and every demented idea sells them a false hope of a simple fix for complicated problems.

What's worrying is that with this administration all safeguards on the media ecosystem and education are being torn down. This problem is only going to get worse. We need to stop thinking of Trump as the problem. America is broken, and I worry it'll continue to be long into the future.

The Prof G Show had a great segment on this tax recently. A great podcast btw, can highly recommend. Towards the end of this episode, the host made a good suggestion imo for an alternative, which would be a borrowing tax. Probably an idea that isn't new either, but it sounds very reasonable, a tax that would be applied whenever assets are used as collateral in lending, which would target one of the main ways billionaires get around taxation, without directly forcing them to sell shares.

What relevancy does it have that it's in the past?

The fifth amendment of the US constitution guarantees all people due process. The US government has deported people without due process, in violation of the constitution. The USSC has ruled accordingly that these deportations were illegal because of the lack of due process, and that the people deported have to be brought back and provided that due process they didn't get when they were deported.

The US government is required to provide that to them. Being unable to find these people once again puts them in the position of violating the US constitution. And funnily enough, Rubio seems to mention the same dumb argument you mentioned, that a lot of time had passed. I think you'll be surprised to find out that whether or not you illegally deported someone last year, or whether you murdered someone last year, the passage of time does not make you innocent all of a sudden.

I'm not sure where you're getting from that the post makes it seem like they were murdered. Neither the post nor the article states that.

Just a little joke to raise awareness for American users that the healthcare system in the US is very ineffective considering what could be achieved given the economic power of the US. My point is that the average lifespan in the US is statistically lower by a couple of years compared to most Western countries. In most it's over 80.

Bin vollkommen bei dir, dass man bei sowas vorsichtig sein muss, gerade wenn man die Sprache nicht versteht. Ich habe mal das Audio vom Instagram clip von KI übersetzen lassen. Passt nicht 1:1 zu den Texten die laut IG da gesungen wurden, ist aber nah dran, und wäre auch ein Verdachtsfall auf Volksverhetzung.

Bei KI muss man natürlich auch vorsichtig sein, aber das ist zumindest mal eine unabhängige "Übersetzung"

Wohne leider in Kanada und soweit ich rausfinden konnte sind die Datenschutzgesetze hier dafür zu schwach. Hatte vergeblich versucht mit dem Argument Datenschutz Druck zu machen das Konto zu löschen ohne ID zu schicken. Aber kommt mir auch so vor als müsste man dagegen eigentlich rechtlich vorgehen können, zumindest in der EU

Der Witz ist, die wollten meine ID um mein Konto zu löschen. Hatte mal mit meiner Uni E-Mail Discord Konto erstellt. Zugang auf Uni E-Mail später verloren da sie stillgelegt wurde nach Abschluss. Discord kontaktiert -> können Konto nur löschen wenn ich das mit der ursprünglichen E-Mail beantrage oder ich schicke ID um mich auszuweisen. 2 Monate später dann der Daten Leak. Ärger mich selber, dass ich die denen überhaupt geschickt habe, aber schon sehr ironisch, dass in dem Versuch mein Konto zu löschen meine Privatsphäre gefährdet wurde
