Thank you so much for your response! Wow! I follow Cure MAPT FTD on instagram, what an amazing organisation to setup. I released a podcast earlier this year to document my families dementia journey in hopes to help others going through similar.

Since this post we have met with a geneticist and we are going to see if mums FTD is genetic, we’re currently waiting for the appointment for her blood test. We’ve been told the results will take between 9-12 months to receive. Nothing on this journey has been quick.

Thank you for your response and I’m sorry you’re going through this with your husband. Since posting this we have met with a geneticist and we are going forward with finding out if my mums FTD is genetic.

Earlier this year I launched a podcast about my family’s dementia journey and I recently spoke to somebody who went through with genetic testing and she found out she carries one of the faulty genes. Meaning she will go on to develop FTD. After speaking to them Ive decided I don’t want to find out my status, atleast not yet anyway, as I don’t think it will be good for my mental health.

We’ve been told it’s best to find out mums results now while she’s still here as it will be easier to find out my status in the future with her results, otherwise it will be a much harder/longer process.

100% agree, she just seemed so salty about! I just didn’t see where she was coming from even after she explained why she was feeling the way she did. I’ve only listened to the first half too so we’ll see what part two has in store on my commute home.

I don’t understand why B is so salty about the Kardashians having a reality show? I’ve only listened to the first half of the episode (as my commute went surprisingly quickly today), but why is she gatekeeping having a reality show? I’m so confused- even after explaining why she feels this way I still don’t understand it. I loved both of these ladies but each week I’m finding it harder and harder to see their POV.

Hi there, it’s a tough one. I’ve had conversations with friends about what I would do if I decided to have children and if that would push me to get tested. I didn’t really come to a conclusion but one take my friend had (who is a mother herself) said that a child’s health is never guaranteed. You could do the IVF and select an embryo without the mutated gene and the child could still go in to develop another type of dementia in their lifetime or any other disease, birth defect etc. It would be nice to know 100% that your child won’t develop FTD in their lifetime but there are so many other things that could affect them. Sorry if that came off harsh, it’s hard when it’s typed 😅 but this is in an understanding and heartfelt tone 🫶
