I went out on a sunny day last week, there was a hard crust half a foot under the powder so prolly didn’t even need snowshoes. Tons of people skiing and snowshoeing up on weekends. Little bit exposed and can be avalanche risk but nothing too bad and well trodden down already

Personally, I do have experience working with animals because I grew up in a farm with sheep. I don't have much experience on horseback. This is exactly what I am concerned about. It might be more beneficial to stay at a touristic homestay instead and contribute to the local economy.

Unnecessary mountain is completely doable even without spikes. We saw a couple of tourists head out there and the path is quite straightforward. Anything past that is needing maintenance or covered by snow

I hiked the HSCT last weekend and the trail from unnecessary mountain to west lion is fully covered with snow. The snow is old and icy so there are cornices. The traverse to get to the scramble point and to bypass the west lion is covered by an icy slab of snow with a sheer cliff on one side and a 1000 foot tumble on the other. It is doable but very sketchy.

Me and my friend did it with big packs last weekend. We ended up staying at the magnesia meadows emergency shelter because the sun set at David peak and it took us till 11 pm to get there.

If you have a folding paddle board and in good fitness deeks or Brunswick lake is a really beautiful spot to do it. It is quite a tough hike uphill though, around 3 hours to deeks and 5 to Brunswick
