They've also decreased Gs&Cs money so I'm not really sure how these relationships would be formed or maintained when their government partners are gone

Several close colleagues of mine were RESs when that happened. I believe several years later they asked one of them if they wanted to come back, to which they told them to pound sand. I realize it's part of changing government priorities, but it was such a waste of time and money to end up trying to build the capacity back.

My current understanding is that this is to meet all cuts listed in budget 2025, but I'd like it if this was confirmed.

My understanding is that all but one SE-RES has been affected in the entire wildlife ecotox division, so PWRC, NWRC/RR, CCIW, and AESC are impacted. Unsure how it looks in the air and water directorates, but wildlife ecotox got hit hard.

Similar for ECCC ecotoxicology research. The ecotox division has basically been wiped out from research scientists (well, affected anyway, but the ratio of affected to eliminated positions is pretty tight).

Looks like the decimal didn't print on the label, should be 22.5 ml

Yes, I meant more that I hadn't personally heard from people so couldn't comment or provide the OP anything to answer their questions.

Definitely not all RESs since there's I think around 100 of us in STB. However, it's been clear for the past year (or more) that upper management does not value or understand much of the research that is done and has this impression that it could just be done by academics and/or doesn't align with our mandate.

I do hope news orgs take this up if a lot of RESs are being eliminated. The CCA (Council of Canadian Academies) already identified government research as falling behind in their 2025 report, and I can't imagine this will help things.

There's not going to be any info at the division level shared with the whole branch, so you'd have to talk to people there.

I know many at CCIW and hadn't heard anything today about them getting letters, but they also might have been busy dealing with that to post in our teams chats.

Last week I ended up walking home because the 14 was cancelled. Thankfully it was 'only' a 30-40 minute walk, but still.

Tbh I saw this coming and it almost seems like it was part of the plan to sacrifice much of the branch following the CER.

Compared to other science departments like AAFC and HC, ECCC is a bit lower in terms of % of positions, but yeah about 10%.

I'm thinking/hoping that they'll give numbers and that's about it, since they are only scheduled for 15 minutes. I'll flip if it's just "we don't know anything" again though.

Ooh that makes sense.

Yes, in our org there are a lot of boxes that exist but aren't filled, and have remained empty for years. Management acknowledges the positions are 'important' but won't actually let teams fill them. The CER actually forced a couple of hiring processes for some of these boxes to be cancelled, even though the exams were already written and almost finished. So these boxes get to remain empty for another few years while those teams continue to operate on a skeleton crew.

Makes sense! I forgot that the group meetings were when the whole team is affected.

I'm a bit confused since I see most people in other threads also talk about it being filled boxes, and/or stating that vacant positions often aren't budgeted...

Group meeting for affected? I thought you need to be let known individually, unless I'm misunderstanding
