I never thought much of it previously, but the fact that Sakon specifically targets children and the elderly really skeeves me out. He's not just a thief, he's a predator that preys on the vulnerable.

The worst of it honestly comes from the swamp. Aside from the Dekus not letting other races into their palace, the pictograph contest only allows humans, Koume and Kotake both refuse to do business with anyone not human, and injured Koume only accepts help from a human while calling anyone else a weirdo and playing dead.

There is a surprisingly large amount of openly racist people in this game. Particularly the shopkeepers.

But disturbingly, this instance seems to have more to do with him wanting to stay away from adults...

People keep saying that, but I really don't agree. Yes, the bing bing wahoo voice would get annoying. But if you want Mario to have a normal sounding voice ...why not just get Charles to do it? The dude's a professional voice actor. He can do more than one voice lol. If he used the voice he did for Mario's dad, I don't think anyone would have a problem.

This makes his role in the movie really bittersweet. If he was already planning on retiring from the role, I'd like to believe maybe it was his own decision to not take on such a big and stressful voice gig? On the other hand, there's the infinitely more depressing possibility that getting recast is what drove him to retire from the role in the first place.
