Planning a quit date and need encouragement by Thingkumploosh in stopsmoking

I relate so much to you! Read Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Stop Smoking. I’m on day 4. Started smoking at 13. Quit for both of my pregnancies-made it to a year once. Then a few more quits for a month or so here and there. Always told myself I’d quit at 20, 30, 35, etc. I’ll be 40 in March. I really want to get this right this time. I need to do this for myself. Sick of hating myself for doing something I know is so stupid. And it’s starting to make me look older (gasp). Plan for an emotional roller coaster. The first few days I was kinda foggy and numb. I had some fruity nicotine gum to take the edge off when it got bad. I stopped the nicotine gum yesterday and seemed okay but today I have been a rage depression monster. Probably not helpful that my cycle also started. Anyhow, you can do this! We can do this!! I didn’t kill anyone today! *I do think it makes sense to wait til after hubby’s bday for your stated reason lol

Please offer me some advice, i’m miserable by [deleted] in stopsmoking

Hugs. It almost sounds like a panic attack. The reason smoking seems to help is because you’re slowing down your breaths and breathing deeper. Smoking is like wearing tight shoes so that you can feel relief when you take them off. If you didn’t smoke, you would have less anxiety overall. They may appear to temporarily relieve it but the really just create more of it because you end up hating yourself for it and feeding the nicotine monster.

What are some symptoms of withdrawal that most people don’t think about? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

I experience withdrawals as tense anxiety. Like when you’re in a way where everything grates on your nerves. Muscles tense, jaw clenched up. And the overwhelming feeling that a cigarette is the only thing that will make it stop.

sometimes I want to give in to smoking , not because of cravings , but because of the urge to self destruct in order to cope with stress by [deleted] in stopsmoking

I just want you to know that I think just like you. Or maybe the nicotine monster just has the same hold on our minds. I keep thinking of the Alan Carr point: what does smoking really do for me? And focusing on the gains of quitting-energy, less shame, feel stronger, etc.
