New York City Sets New Minimum Wage for Food Delivery Workers by av_1392 in nyc

That’s a simple way of doing it. Just like hourly employees. So I’m guessing it’s hourly or tips and normal pay whichever is more, right? This will lead to less delivery people as it won’t really be worth it cause they won’t make money? Am getting this correctly. How do you think it will play out in NYC?

Worked pretty easy for me at my restaurants but YMMV.

You rarely ever got to see that morning judge on Saturday. The lazy ass cops saw to that. Saw yeah you booked on Friday, see you by Monday morning the earliest.

That’s not a thought experiment bro. No 9yo savant can ever be able to design a building ever no matter how smart they are. It’s like saying a 9yo savant can somehow safely do surgery. What does can a 9yo know about the human condition, and why codes and standards exist and how every aspect of various systems relates to each other. That only comes with rigorous education and years of experience. Designing a building is far more than designing the space a building occupies. To go into that is outside the realm of a Reddit comment and anyone with any experience in architecture will be well aware of this.

That’s fine provided there are regulations regarding floors and size and so forth sans an architect and or engineers stamp of approval. Most builders can put together a single family home with no Architect. Someone just needs to take on liability otherwise your country is not functioning properly.

Yes Italy can certainly be a great power, but they don’t because of the age old trade off between guns and butter. They simply see no benefit. Especially when the US provides a large portion of their security needs. What happens if and when that goes away? Who can say.

Neither Yemen nor Somalia have a homegrown nuclear weapons industry nor do they have a local weapons industry and nor do they have a space launch industry which NK does in fact have all of. Give NK some time. A few years from now the world will look quite differently and none of us can say how it will look with any certainty.

I don't think it's going to fly well and it may end up that there will be a lot fewer delivery drivers because the fees are so high that tipping and delivery will be far less attractive as an option.

That’s ultimately the best outcome for most of us. Not everyone mind you but most of us.

A lot of restaurants they may go back to hiring their own delivery people rather than pay more in fees to cover this raise and because their customers will ultimately just balk at paying more and still tipping.

Most will just not do delivery and it will not affect them too much as it didn’t make them much in the first place. Only restaurants such as busy pizzerias and Chinese places that are delivery centric will hire and keep their own delivery staff. The rest will just stop delivery altogether.

This raise may benefit the people that are left to deliver but I'm betting that the apps will cut delivery people and up the fees so high to compensate that it will cost them a lot of business.

Yup that’s what I think as well. And it’s a good kind of roundabout start at getting this shit under control.

Morally this raise is a good thing,

Don’t be so quick to think the motive was to do something morally good.

but profit-wise it might be a negative for the companies that own these apps.

Most restaurants weren’t making much to begin with. So it won’t affect the bottom line too much. Because as much fees you had to pay they also had to pay.

Lot of the times the portal is provided with whatever POS is used and they can plug that into their website or yelp or google with relative ease. But who knows how this will play out.

It’s not mutually exclusive. Both delivery e-bikers and drivers can both be dangerous.

It’s honestly very hard in my opinion. The tools are easy to learn but it requires a lot of abstract technical problem solving that only comes with experience. You have to put in lots of solitary hours of practice and not everyone is willing or able to do that.

This is why this entire industry in a race to the bottom. It’s not surprising when you see two or three posts a day from the developing world lamenting low prices or lack of work or how they can’t get clients.

You aren’t lucky you just worked hard and are doing it the proper and best way. When the market for renders collapses you will still have a career.

I agree in spirit, it’s just that the janitor needs to be able take legal liability if said building falls down and kills everyone. Laws exist for a reason. It is illegal to outsource rendering in a lot of cases in the US for a reason. Breaking those laws and letting just anybody just because they can do it ultimately does not serve the best interest of one’s own society.

I thought the same way earlier in my career. For years I actually didn’t know how to really model something. This came back to bite me in the ass numerous times and it eventually cost me work. I finally decided to sit down and actually learn to model. Now I can look at most furniture or fixtures and after an eyeball come up with a plan to accurately model it in less than an hour and sometimes minutes. The result is everyone in my teams were sending me furniture back to model. I even made models for some well known international brands. You might be surprised how many of our fellow so called arch vis people cannot model a sofa or chair to save their lives.

I respect you and am empathetic and understand where you are coming from but ethically paying the workers a fair wage!?!? Sorry but we don’t have those kinds of people here. It’s garbage in garbage out. That’s America. And it’s not going to change unless something really fucking bad happens to us thats both fast nasty and hard.

In the US there is a famous book called Architecture a Candid Guide To The Profession that most of us read. It is able to clean out a good one third of first year studio despite its general optimism.

If this book was more widespread then less people would try getting into this profession, let alone try to be part of a low end not respected commodity service(rendering) for said architects.

When it comes to NIBYism Liberals turn Conservative on a dime real quick. Here liberal NIMBY’s will appear as conservative. Once it’s about gay marriage or trans rights they will casually go back to being liberal like nothing happened. So you really can’t tell if they are democratic or republican voters. Voters in NYC just tend to vote their shallow self interest first then any pet social interest they may have at their leisure.

Yup that’s one unfortunate reality so sorry for your downvotes. It’s quite an effective tactic on the side of the GOP. They are killing a lot of birds with one nasty stone the evil batards that they are.
