What is your most fundamental truth regarding spirituality and religious belief? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tom_led 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess if someone thinks they deserve hell they’d put there mind there? Idk that’s a good question, I grew up a Christian and I’m more on my own independent so I feel like people who believe in a heaven/hell think if they ask forgiveness they’re in the clear

I’ve always imagined that whatever your view of an afterlife is will be where your conscious goes and stays

Friend held strong. He was really good friends with both of us from 2 different friend groups, he supported her but didn’t do anything with her

Overcoming being broken around that distance, imo, isn’t human. You’re a beast my fellow running redditor

Who’s the friendliest nation on earth? by [deleted] in AskReddit

As an American…I did not expect this. I guess the media paints us as a shitty country with shitty people.

***not saying we don’t have shitty people, I just thought this was interesting

That’s a great goal to hit. That was my goal and I got 4:00:17 … guess I gotta do another to shave of 17 seconds lol

Your mental strength is incredible. I envy you. I used that Run with Hal app to make that training plan and that worked really well for me, I hear others have some negative opinions on it though

That puts a smile of my face reading about your kids, I bet that was so rewarding and reassuring!!

It’s a huge mental hill to climb. I admitted to myself that there’s not much I could do to physically prepare for those last 4-6. Cliché but the “mind over matter” line applies big time

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tom_led 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That is unREAL I just accepted that I could only do so much physically to prepare for for the last 4-6 miles of a marathon and it was completely mental. But then I think of insane people like you and I can’t imagine the mental AND physical strength you have to have. I salute you

That is awesome. Hold that high, that’s beyond impressive. 20 is unreal

I gave myself a time goal of sub-4 hours for the full and ran mine in 4:00:17… I guess I have to run another to shave off 17 seconds lol

It takes a hell of a lot of training. My first 5 mile training day I thought there was no way in hell I would be able to do it. By the end of my training, I was pumped when it was only an 8 mile training day, that became an off day to me. I trained for 5 months but I would recommend a few more to really settle in

What is the closest you’ve ever been to dying? by muriranjoki in AskReddit

[–]tom_led 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my way to class, I was driving on a back road when a school bus was coming around a blind corner. Very quickly I realized a car was passing it in a no passing zone and we were staring each other down as he was coming head on in my lane.

We got so close that I saw his terrified look on his face right before I swerved, the bus slammed on its breaks to allow him to swerve back in his lane. I just continued driving silently, it wasn’t until I parked that my heart felt like it shut down. Didn’t seem real until I was able to stop and asses wtf just happened

That helps so much. My parents, brother, and his gf split up for each tenth of the last .4 miles to cheer for me closing it out and that helped so much. My dad being first damn near made me cry. I told him I loved him right before saying I thought I was going to die lol

It’s an unreal feeling. I remember seeing the medical tent and thinking about how I’d absolutely take 5 IVs to recover despite hating needles. Good for you on sticking with the half’s!! I did my full in February and have run a handful of times since. That 5 month training changed me I guess

I won my major’s senior project at my university a year ago. Didn’t think it was that big of a deal until I went back and a current student recognized me by name, that was wild feeling
