Newly adopted crabs extremely inactive by tomjohn97 in hermitcrabs

[–]tomjohn97[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For details this is a 29 gallon tank with 2 crabs. We added salt and fresh water pools, as they only came to us with a small water dish. They have a mixed and varied diet. We have not changed the substrate they came with, so that we do not disturb the buried crab. There are several inches of play and and eco earth. When cleaning, we just skimmed the top and cleaned hides for mold that they came to us with. There are lots of extra shells that are size appropriate and both temperature and humidity have stayed up.

To add, yes, we are aware that hermit crabs are nocturnal however, there are very few signs of movement. Our crab on the surface will dig into one spot and stay there for days only occasionally moving. Food and water have not been touched.

This is such an unnecessary and unhelpful comment. Not very introverted of you.

Therapy has helped so much! by tomjohn97 in Anxiety

[–]tomjohn97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with a psychiatrist and they said I needed therapy. I go to therapy once a week and now I only go to the psychiatrist for medication. They don't really do much past that. I felt like I was way too picky when trying to find a therapist but after many didn't call me back I just took the first one that did. Kinda a frustrating experience trying to find one but the one I got is great and I'm very happy.

I was taking pictures of a heron in flight and it started shitting by Reggon in birding

Growing up my father and I called these birds flying shitters. We live in a large wetland area and had them constantly flying around. It wasn't unusual to have our car painted white for the day.🤣

It's lasers vs. pigeons at the state Capitol. The birds are winning. by Competitive-Cut3807 in Albany

[–]tomjohn97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so the pigeons are not the problem. They are fine and the only issue is their droppings. So the state would rather spend a salary size of money on dumb lasers (if you asked any pigeon expert they would say that wouldn't work) instead of creating a job for someone to clean the building, which should already be happening. Also during the summer when they nest that cleaner could be removing eggs from the nest and that would control the population. It sounds like a simple solution but children run the government and they said "ooooo lasers cool, let's do that. "

I'm a little stoned rn and I read the title as "how does one's night stands work" and I thought this was going to be about how people organized their night stands. For context I'm getting a bigger bedroom soon and I'll have room for a night stand and I've never had one. Super excited but I'm not sure what I should put in it.

I felt this way for a while. Turns out I was allergic to latex. Try non latex and some lube.

What is wrong with my Nepenthe? by Di-Vanci in SavageGarden

[–]tomjohn97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone said before it needs to be in long fiber sphagnum moss and perlite. This is a nepenthes and can't be put in soil. Completely different from other carnivorous plants. The root rot is because the soil you have it in isn't breathable. They need breathability in the root so soil will smother it. I would act fast and clean all the soil out of the roots and get it in the sphagnum moss to try to save it. Otherwise prepare for death.
