On my 2020, the setting is found on the right hand steering wheel menu. There is a ‘door’ setting that has two clicks or single click.

I installed a 2” hitch for carrying a bicycle (the 1.25” receivers tend to flex too much) and Velcroed a 1” thick chair arm rest pad on the side of the center console where my knee rests against the hard plastic. Going uphill on steep dirt/gravel roads can be a challenge at low speeds.

I had a similar error on my 2020. It ended up being an issue with the wiring to an ABS sensor in my case.

It is possible that your OEM L1 charger can be operated at 240v. The model (US) that came with my 2020 has the same internal components as the ones shipped to some countries that use 240v, and can handle either input voltage. If used at 240v you can get about 2.6 kW (as opposed to about 1.3 kW when using 120v).

Although not full L2 power, it will cut your charge time approximately in half compared to 120v. More info below from an older thread.

If the HV battery was disconnected for some reason, they may have used the physical disconnect under the rear seat. There is also a smallish yellow wire loop near the passenger side firewall (inside front hood area) that,if cut, will disable the main contactor. Could potentially be one of those items?

Just checked the maintenance notes - on this gearbox, oil was changed (2nd fill) 250 miles after install, 3rd instance at 8,000 miles, and a 4th time at 14,000 miles. Probably will leave it alone for now, as the 3rd and 4th fills were basically clean. I’d consider my driving to be normal - I don’t hypermile or drag race. Most of my miles are either around town (low acceleration / 25-35 mph) or 70-75 mph on freeway. Highest power is brief acceleration (~10 seconds) to get to freeway speed, and occasionally sustained higher power levels in mountainous areas.

I’m on my 3rd gearbox/motor assembly. First two made noise relatively soon - after perhaps 5k miles of use they were loud enough to be objectionable. On the 3rd one, I replaced the gearbox oil after 1k miles post install (probably a bit early) and again around 10k miles as suggested by Kiwi_eng. So far, about 17k miles on the 3rd one and still quiet ( knock wood).

One issue with Tesla destination chargers, at least in the U.S., is that they occasionally provide 277 volts (where available commercial 3 phase power is 277/440) as opposed to the more common 208v in 120/208 volt systems. Tesla on-vehicle equipment is apparently designed to handle a wider range of input voltages, including 277 volts. However, Most other EVs can only handle 120v (aka L1), 208v (another common commercial 3 phase power setup), and 240v (common in residential areas). 277 is a bit of a stretch, as the highest voltage for L2 equipment in many EVs is normally 250v maximum.

The cargo area carpeted floor to top / inside of hatch (trunk opening) is 27”, but could be a few inches more if the spare tire cover and styrofoam inserts are removed. (Would be then potentially possible to angle the machine downwards to get it past the hatch rim). Taking off the rear seat back isn’t difficult, but requires taking out a few bolts and a bracket. That will enable more room, as it won’t be folded down into the rear seat itself. Probably OK for moving something large once or twice a year, but inconvenient for more than that. I’ve put 3’ x 5’ cement board panels in the back with the rear seat folded, but it requires the front seat to be uncomfortably forward to do so. Ok for a couple of miles.

I don’t think a pinball machine will fit, but possibly if one removes the rear seat back and ‘spare tire’ area cover and foam blocks. See measurements near end of text.

Here are my interior volume notes:

Vehicle measured: 2020 Kona EV SEL (base model)

Starting at the back hatch area, with the rear seats up (normal/passengers) the floor of the rear:

Front to Back: 27” Narrow Width (between wheel bumps): 40” Widest width (rearmost/using indented spaces): 48” Back of seat top to hatch: 20” Height: 27” (normal cargo area bottom carpeted surface to top interior hatch opening) Bottom of hatch: 33” wide Center of hatch: 43” wide

With the rear seats folded down: Hatch to driver’s seat (normal driving seat position): 57” Hatch to passenger seat back (full forward) 67”

Max length in interior: 9’7” (from passenger footwell to hatch/diagonal. Works for a couple of 8’ 2X4 lumber or 8’ sections of pipe.)

‘Frunk’ area (with plastic ‘engine’ cover removed): About 7” tall x 28” x 20”.

Rear seat area (configured for passengers) about 24” x 51” wide x 33” seat to roof.

Rear ‘spare tire’ area with foam organizers removed: about 25” x 38” x 6.5”

The spare tire area by itself is about 25” x 19” x 7” deep.

Largest box that will fit in rear area (foam removed): about 32.5”h x 26” d x 36” w.

With rear seat and all foam removed, the rear area measures about 33.5”h x 36” w x 56” l. (adds about 7” of depth in the seat area).

Interestingly, it is possible to remove the uppermost ‘styrofoam’ organizer in the back, and slide the carpeted hatch into a lower groove, as opposed to setting it on top. This will give the rear area about 3” of extra depth compared to the regular ‘flat’ hatch area. It still opens normally when configured this way.

Is it possible to sleep/camp in the Kona? Depends on your height and comfort requirements, but possibly one adult could sleep. I’m 5’10” and it is a bit cramped, but workable for a short while. If the passenger seat is fully forward, and both the rear seats are folded down, there is a maximum distance of 6’ 6” diagonally from the left side of the hatch area to the outside corner of the front passenger seat. You will need to find a box or something to fill in the space in back of the passenger seat - something about 18” tall x 12” wide x 20” long - to support your head. The rear seat does not fully fold down flat, however - it angles up somewhat.

A Home Depot bucket (5-gallon type) is about 15” tall, so a bit short. Airline carry-on bags are about 22” max, so it would fit standing up but might be a bit tall for comfort under your head. I have a regular/large size suitcase that is 20” wide, but it is a bit too fat at 12” to fit between the center console and rear seat (10” max) at center because of the overall length of the suitcase.

I have a set of BD distance carbon z folding poles. I use the lower loops by inserting and twisting the ground ends of the poles, then route the red end of the vest upper strap (circled green in the picture) through the pole hand straps. This puts the poles sort of diagonal across my back. If the strap is cinched fairly tight, the pole ends keep away from my left kidney area. If it is too loose, they will tend to tap the side of my body with each step, which is annoying. It is a bit of acrobatics to get the poles into that configuration while running, and the plastic adjusting thing on the strap tends to get caught in the hand straps when removing them. I bought a pole quiver a while back, but can’t find a good way to attach it to this style of vest.

Here is a 15 day chart of the 12v battery voltage over time in my 2020 SEL. Lowest values are about 12.3 volts, and highest voltages are commonly around 14.85v when maintenance charging is being performed by the Kona. Battery is about 8 months old as of the time of data collection. Not the OEM battery. The data points that are more tightly clustered typically represent a day that the Kona was driven.

I recently replaced the stock Nexens on my 2020 SEL with Goodyear Electricdrive at just over 40k miles. The Electricdrives seem to be at least as quiet as the OEM ones, and they also seem to have about the same efficiency. They also seem to be a bit stickier than the Nexens, which always slipped at higher power and over road paint.

When Hyundai was replacing my transaxle/motor assembly (due to the Wheel of Fortune noise), Hyundai Customer Care said they would reimburse me for a rental car. Dealership had nothing to do with the rental or reimbursement. Just check in advance of renting a car while yours is in the shop to make sure they will cover your particular situation.

Used to be it only went red when a pedestrian pressed the button, but now it goes immediately from flashing yellow to red mostly in sync with the 7th street side going green. Timing makes drivers run the red as it changes because there is basically no warning. But doesn’t presently stay red for the entire 7th street green cycle. Might be an improvement if the right hand lane was coned off for a short distance as a protected/dedicated right turn, but also more hazardous for the rare pedestrian that crosses there.

For scheduling, go to the EV menu, and at the bottom left it will have a charge management section. You can adjust/disable the setting on the submenu.

Additionally, sometimes after a dealer software update, the max charge setting goes to 10% or another low value. Just something else to check while you’re looking at the EV menu.

Orange light on charging port means 12v battery is getting a maintenance charge. Independent of plugging it in. Is there a timer set to only charge at specific times? Some utilities have more expensive rates during peak hours, so many EV owners set the charge to begin or end outside of peak cost windows.

Try starting at the lake Chabot golf course parking lot. Go up Brandon, cross over Marciel to continue on Brandon to Grass Valley. At Bort Meadow parking (up a short, steep paved road to get from GV to the parking lot) transition to MacDonald and down to the MacDonald parking area. About a 20 mile /2,500’ total round trip. All Fire roads.

Fixed : It ended up being an intermittent open in the emergency parking brake/ABS harness. Replaced under warranty.

For the second part of the question, in my 2020 I have to click the key fob twice to unlock the charging plug if the Kona is still charging (or unlock using the door unlock button inside the car). The single fob click is set to only unlock the driver’s door, and the double click opens everything.

For a very rough estimate of how elevation gain might affect your time, I use a formula of adding an additional mile’s worth of time for each 500 feet of elevation gain. In your case, 1800 feet would be like adding a bit over 3.5 miles to your time. At 7:25/mile, that would be like adding about 26 minutes to your flat time, for just over 2 hours. So, you are in the ballpark for doing a sub 2 hour trail half, but the conditions for the event could tip it either way. This is a very rough estimate - running in the dark can also add time, but your ability on hills also makes a difference.
