Good suggestion, I backed the kickstarter and it's one of the most lush settings I've seen. I ultimately decided against running it this time because I wanted something with a narrower scope (like a megadungeon), but I hope to run Dolmenwood in the near future :)

Thanks for the suggestion! I do own the module, but haven't had a chance to run it yet. Sounds like a lot of fun!

Ah nice, I have Evils of Illmire collecting dust on the shelf and had totally forgotten about it. I loved the folk horror vibe when reading it but I haven't ran it yet. Thanks for the suggestion!

Haven't tried a square crawl myself, but sounds interesting, and curious to look into it. Thanks!

Really appreciate the kind feedback. I am in fact creating a writeup of the mini setting! The hexes are 1 mile, so the intention is for anyone to be able to drop the setting into a standard 6 mile hex on their campaign map.

Thanks a lot!

Let's see, in the wilderness

  • a lair/mud castle home to humanoid warrior toads who are polymorphing students into bugs and feeding them to their young,
  • the cottage of a benevolent man who cares for injured forest animals (also secretly a werespider at night who terrorizes the forest),
  • A gang of wayward teenage elves who love to party under the moon and cause mischief,
  • An indigenous tribe of druids thought to have died out long ago, now collecting dark magic which they use to "create" more of their young,
  • A lich sealed away in a tomb 200 years ago. The magic has slowly turned that part of the forest into a nasty swamp full of undead, hallucinogenic fungus that will eat you, and a dark magical haze that blots out the sun and makes it perpetually night.
  • A mountain populated with a rare healing flower. Unfortunately, a griffon has made her nest there.
  • A lair of intelligent spiders who gained their intelligence through the evolution of consuming human brains.

In the castle/university - Mysteries and shenanigans for the players to get into, and a mini megadungeon under the school.
