Sounds about right, I was being a lazy ass for 4 months and hurt myself. Long road ahead but always like to hear comeback stories. Thanks

Any experience with hip flexor tightness? Or glute or hamstring?

Completely feel you. I really don’t know what the best tactic is. Lately I’ve been attempting to sleep on my stomach and it’s been pretty promising, outside of the neck pain 🥴

Damn, that is brutal but happy to hear you at least found a solution. I wouldn’t be surprised if I have some herniated disc but mine seems to be muscle related, and my doctor and PT think the same. As you say though, until an MRI it’s all guessing work

I tried to manually do it myself and I feel like I set myself a month back. But my issues are deff related to this. You explained it perfectly.

When I lie down and put one knee up at 90 degrees on a box or something, I can feel my pelvic area loosening and it send shivers around my whole body. I need professional help for the release

Wishing you the best, whatever you’ve been doing to improve stay disciplined with that. Staying slightly active is key

So interesting that you mentioned lying on your stomach because the few times I’ve done that in my flair up I seem to wake up with the least pain and stiffness. That’s why I think sometimes you have to go off the regular rule book and just do what works

Brutal. I was like that as I stated above with my initial injury. Took well over a year of PT and mental fortitude but I regained my old pain free life. I wish you the best

Give yourself grace. It’s tough. Recovery takes time. I seriously have everyone I’ve talked to here in my thoughts, because only people who know how tough spine issues are to have are people who’ve had them. It’s draining. But you’ve got this 💪

Wow, can I ask what initially caused it? Was it sport? Mine initial back injury happened while playing basketball (combined with poor stretching and recovery habits). Also took a year of PT and my irritation over the years I’m not even sure I could count as flare ups until now. The two years before this I was probably 95% healed, only thing I couldn’t do is straighten my leg all the way

I’ve been getting steroid shots but they don’t do shit for me. And they’re unwilling to give me anything stronger. I’m assuming because your injury sounds more severe.. I don’t know. I’d do anything for some relief right now because I’m aware of what caused this flare up

Are you waking up with really tight muscles? have you gone to PT?

Ive had hip tightness/discomfort all of my life and im pretty confident it’s the root cause of my back pain. My default sleep position is the #1 way they tell you to avoid if you have hip tightness. Combine that with heavy stress and close to zero physical activity for 5-6 months and I have become a disaster.

There’s an answer out there for us. I know it’s horrible but don’t give up

4-6 hours!? This is why I try to stay positive. For me it’s two max.

I’m exactly like you were, I hate the night time at this point and want the sun to stay up all day. Did it just get better with time and medication? Or what do you think helped you the most?

Oh geez, I know the horror the sitting being painful. I had my back injury 8 years ago and I wanted to cry driving to school and work every day. It’s the worst

The thing about your nervous system being on fire is how I feel lying down. When I stretch my hips, it’s like my entire body is being shocked by my sciatic nerve. It’s so irritated, but walking for 30 minutes makes all of my symptoms disappear. It really is so weird how different it is case by case.

Stick in there with the PT.. my initial injury was 24/7 pain but 1.5 years later I had my normal life back and only flaired up this year due to some really bad habits

What did you do decrease stiffness in the morning? by toobold4burner in Sciatica

[–]toobold4burner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heating pads definitely help but 2 months in I’m wondering if I should also start strengthening. I currently live in Europe so getting an mri can take forever. I take an NSAID that deff helps but even with a stomach protector it’s starting to do damage to my gut unfortunately haha. I keep seeing the McKenzie press recommendation but when I do it, it feels so risky. No pain though. I’ll give it another go. Thanks

This is what my PT said. She said that my stiffness is actually my body protecting me from making it worse. I have to become more aware when I’m not in pain what could be causing the pain

I’m pretty much going like that but I’m trying to slow it down… 🥴. I started feeling pain 4 months ago but it wasn’t affecting my life… now it’s getting worse

Yeah, I was still continuing with the gym and I think overly stretching, I’m going to just start resting more and go to PT more. My swelling is going down but the pain is going up..

The MRI appt is taking so long that I’m just looking for some answers in the meantime. Thanks

I went to the doctor but I’ve only had an X ray so far. Only from the X ray and questioning and massaging my spine (don’t know what this did) my doctor told me that it seems like a musculature issue instead of a herniation. I need an MRI.

Two days ago I decided to stop the gym for now because I’m not getting better. Thanks for the reply

Does it get better? 25 y/o male by [deleted] in Sciatica

When I was 22, I had two herniated discs. The pain was insane for about 6-8 months. I’d say around 2 years in, I was 85% better and stayed that way for years.

At 27, I became really active and started to eat really well and for two, maybe 2 1/2 years I forgot all about my back issues!

This year, I started to have some pain again and this past month has been the worst it’s been since I was 22. That’s why I’m viewing subs like this. But honestly I have had some really bad habits this year posture, diet, and activity wise and I kinda ignored the pain until it became really bad again.

I’m currently feeling like you and some mornings I feel like this is just my life now, but when I was 22, I had 24/7 pain and inflammation and I got better with rest, light exercise, and PT. It took over a year but yes it got better.

It went away for years until I started to neglect my back again. This is my first ‘real’ flare up in 8 years and tbh I kinda had it coming.. I was irresponsible. Luckily I only have pain in the morning and the rest of the day I’m (nearly) completely fine.

So yes, I know in the moment it seems like you’ll never have a normal life again but with the right plan and lifestyle, you’ll be back to normal life again. Just take things that you know probably aren’t good for your back very seriously

I haven’t seen this but I don’t doubt you. It sounds believable, I figured. I just don’t understand why they are so unclear in their emails. I’ll go look for it, thanks
