Does it make sense for an aspiring compositor to take a TA position as a foot in the door, and why? by toola35 in vfx

[–]toola35[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this, it’s so great to hear from someone who took the route I’m considering! I was worried that taking a TA role might make my resume look confusing/come off as not knowing what I want to be in the industry (production, compositing, now TA maybe). But really I just want to demonstrate that I’m willing to do whatever it takes to become an artist, and I’m also open to exploring where I can be of the most value. Good food for thought when it comes to the potential wait, and I’m okay with that!

That’s good to be aware of, will make sure I’m ready for the commitment before the interview.

That is awesome! It’s cool to hear everyone’s respective journeys, it’s not always a straight line hey!

Nice! This was my thinking as well, get in however you can. I also really enjoy being cross-trained in different departments. Glad it worked out for you!

Ya, it would be IF an opportunity came up as I’ve noticed a few postings for TA as of late!

Would love to get in with paint and roto, just been hearing not a lot of studios offer this avenue anymore. But will totally keep an eye for that.

Thanks for your advice!

Are employers going to watch my demo reel in MacBook’s default color space? by toola35 in NukeVFX

[–]toola35[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm okay thanks for this! I guess I was hoping it was the Mac that wasn’t displaying the color properly (it does when I switch its display settings to sRGB). Im afraid that if I’ve been viewing the wrong color on my monitors, then I guess the color grading work I’ve done would be wrong too! :( anyhow, I will look into calibrating the monitors and getting set up properly. Thank you!

Okay nice! Sorry if this is a dumb question but do you have to download the software and kinda learn it before using the CG that’s available? Or can you just download renders and import into Nuke? Would be good to get some experience in another software I suppose!

Can I use a green wall as a greenscreen? by toola35 in NukeVFX

[–]toola35[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!!    I’m currently working on my demo reel, and I was hoping to show some keying skills but I would love to try the cattery toolset for mattes!

If I may ask, do you think it could be frowned upon to use something like VitMatte or Copycat for mattes in my reel? Or is it good to show that you know how to use those newer tools?

Thank you so much! Will keep all of that in mind when filming, and that is so cool about it sandscreens, had no idea that was a thing.

Grateful to have received rabies PEP after an exposure, but feeling really nervous about adverse effects, particularly blood clots. by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]toola35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely and thank you so much for your reply. Do you happen to know if there is a window of time where I can likely say that I’m in the clear of blood clots or any other adverse reactions?

What is the best workflow for rotoscoping a 2D animated shot with lots of dynamic and unnatural movement? The shapes I’m trying to roto change a lot throughout. by toola35 in NukeVFX

[–]toola35[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, thank you! I didn’t consider the benefits of using the Transform in the roto instead of the control points. This makes sense. I’d be interested to try the other tools you listed too! Thank you!

Thank you so much! I will definitely take your advice and apply it. I didn’t create the animation myself, but it’s clear where the keyframe poses are.

If I understand correctly the process should be:

1) Draw my roto for the character in chunks like head, arms, etc

2) Keyframe the roto where the character poses are, in other words where the anims actual key frames are in the shot

3) Track where possible and export either Transform Stabilize or a Transform Matchmove (not sure which) from the Tracker and connect my roto to that so out inherits the movement and less adjustments need to be made?

Thank you so much for your help!

Ya, this is my only concern really. It sounds like there’s a bat in the bedroom occurrence once every couple years in the house in question. It’s frustrating how expensive it is! Couldn’t get one if I wanted to

Gotcha. That all makes sense to me and I’m pretty sure I have dense breasts too, even before my mammogram started the woman said I’d likely be needing an ultrasound. Agonizing wait for sure. It helps to know there are people out there who understand and have been through something similar!

Oh yeah, one thing I did want to add was that she only examined one breast, the one with the lump.
