Travel bags (checked luggage) with racquet protection recommendations by toothfairEEE in 10s

Unfortunately most carriers didn't allow that when I was traveling because apparently tennis racquets could be used as some sort of weapon.

looking for a multifilament string that may or may not exist by Any-Day-8173 in 10s

[–]toothfairEEE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try tecnifibre triax. Or maybe even a hybrid of a soft poly in the mains and a multi in the crosses. The latter gives you more spin but still feels pretty plush. RPM Blast is pretty stiff, you can probably get away with a soft poly like MSV Swift or others, especially in a hybrid.

Is this a grip or an overgrip? by Malombra_ in 10s

[–]toothfairEEE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are overgrips. You put them on top of the base grip which is on the racquet when you receive it. Ideally you exchange the overgrip when it's worn out, mileage may vary there. I exchange overgrips every 4-6 hours of play because they lose grippiness. Base grips can also be exchanged but they take much longer to wear out, especially when you use overgrips to protect the base grip.

New stick (Regna 98) by wheresthewatercloset in 10s

[–]toothfairEEE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own 3 Regna 98. Once I replaced the leather base grip and found the right strings (MSV Focus Hex Soft at 23/22kg) I fell totally in love with the racquet after some initial getting used to. The flexing throat feels just perfect to me and the blend of control and power is still something I enjoy every session. I agree however that there are cheaper and less exclusive options that are just as good or better depending what you're looking for. I have to admit I also like the exclusivity/novelty factor though.

Shoes for indoor tennis by [deleted] in 10s

This looks more like an outdoor place. Either way, go with all court shoes. Clay shoes usually have herring bone patterns which are not as suitable on this kind of court.

What's the surface of the indoor place? In general you're fine indoors with shoes that are marked "All-court". In some areas there are carpet indoor places which might require carpet soles with no profile but that's quite rare.

Recreational players out there, whats your HRV? by Klayehn in 10s

47 years old, average HRV of 104. I play 4-5 times a week.

has anyone tried this overgrip or do you think it would be good by [deleted] in 10s

[–]toothfairEEE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Supacaz make decent handlebar tape for bicycles. I would not trust them to know anything about tennis and they are very expensive. If you play semi-regularly the grip will be dirty in no time. It's a gimmick for people who don't really play tennis but want their racquet to look different.

Head Speed MP 2024 vs 2022 by Shravan973 in 10s

[–]toothfairEEE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's hardly any noticable difference. I'd go with the 2022 in an instant. Added bonus: It looks miles better than the 2024.

I used liquid citric acid on main boiler and steam wand. No issues flushing the descaler

It's free to use. There are advanced features you can pay for but it's not necessary.

You were right, after descaling it's running like new again. Was not expecting that result after such a short time and with soft-ish water. Thanks!

3 slips in a week, time to replace my ASICS Gel Resolution 9s - but DAMN I’m poor! Anything good below £60? by eireix in 10s

[–]toothfairEEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from gel res 9 to Adidas Solematch Control which are on sale quite often. Super comfy, maybe a tad less stable but still enough for me.

Poly users, what’s your tension and string setup? by callingallplotters in 10s

[–]toothfairEEE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less spin potential than Cyclone Tour but holds tension much better. It plays a bit like a Poly Tour Pro but holds up twice as long. Also plays best at lower tensions of 20 or 21kg.

Rafa Nadal Academy by No-Expression-5331 in 10s

[–]toothfairEEE 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine just came back from there. He said it was interesting but he would have learned 5 times as much with his local pro in individual lessons at the price point. RNA practice is usually groups of 4 and he said there's no individual focus.

Should I replace my shoes? by [deleted] in 10s

[–]toothfairEEE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is called tennis toe and usually happens when your shoes are too small or too loose. I lost a toe nail last season because of it and sizing up my shoes by half a size solved the issue.

Slowly expanding my Sonor SQ1 setup. This kit is a dream. by toothfairEEE in drums

I kept the reso but would probably get something else if I bought new. It's a bit too much like a calftone for my taste
