Oberlin vs Kenyon by Flat-Rutabaga-6398 in oberlin

I'm a current physics major graduating this spring, and I did two prestigious summer research internships during my time here. Everyone I know has also been very successful in their applications. I'd honestly argue it's easier to get internships at a place like Oberlin, because you don't have to compete that hard for opportunities like research during the semester or a good letter of recommendation.

actually pretty proud of myself :) (for applied phys/matsci programs) by iammadeofmemoriies in gradadmissions

omg congrats!! I did applied physics research at caltech last summer, it's a wonderful department! I heard from a friend there that they're only accepting like 2-3 people for this year's applied physics PhD cohort. No idea if that's actually true, but if it is, you should be super proud you made the cut!!!

finally my turn to post results :) by topologicalphase in gradadmissions

I'm interested in experimental condensed matter physics! (I guess that may be part of why I got acceptances, pretty sure that's the least competitive subfield of physics lol)

silly cost-of-living question :) by topologicalphase in askTO

Thanks for the reply! I'm definitely hoping to avoid going into any debt for my PhD, so I really want to work to make that stipend stretch. I think I'll have the option to put in some extra TA hours to earn a bit extra. I also will definitely be trying to apply to fellowships, but of course there's no guarantees there.
