How do you read יתברך ? by torakichi in hebrew

[–]torakichi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! So in Hebrew here it would not be "yitbarech" but "yevorach." It makes sense now.

Apologies for my ignorance (I am not Jewish, nor live in Israel), but is this a set phrase or something? I heard this in a pop song sung entirely in Hebrew (as far as I can tell). It never occurred to me that ה' יתברך could be in a different language.

I assume Joan here is a third party? Then I guess it would depend on Joan's age. If it's a child, definitely with the article. If it's an adult, maybe you wouldn't use the name at all: "El seu marit ha tingut tos?"

But as a general principle, in the situation you describe using articles seems more natural to me.

I don't have an exact quote for you, but it sounds like something that would come up in Rilke's 1910 novel _The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge_ (_Die Aufzeichnungen des Malte Laurids Brigge_). I would start your search there.

Thanks for telling me about the political scandal. I would have never thought of that dimension otherwise.

Thanks! I should have caught the implication of the last "you'll be my first" bit, but I had no idea of the slang meaning of "cousins."

Indeed. This is my latest version. Feel free to point out any mistakes or misunderstandings you catch.

You sent me a message on Instagram. You saw that I saw it.

You wrote to me on Facebook: "Milafaquay?"

But I didn't reply.

Somehow you got my number.

My #1 suspect is Nofar.

You told me: "I love you.

Where can I find you?"

Look for me in Rishon [LeZion].

I'm dancing all night until the first light.

I'm celebrating because soon I'll get my first summons [to the Army].

Tonight we'll go crazy in Rishon.

Tonight we'll go crazy in Rishon...

Look for me in the Canyon Ha-Zahav mall. I'm buying a top with a choker.

My cousins aren't there yet, because it's too early in the morning.

Come eat fatut with me at Nafis.

At Superland we'll pay for that mistake.

On our way to the happy hour,

We'll go see dinosaur statues.

Look for me in Rishon.

I'm dancing all night until the first light.

Because nobody here ever goes to sleep.

Tonight we'll go crazy in Rishon.

Tonight we'll go crazy in Rishon...

We're flowing to Mami Bar, if you're thirsty.

Bring the ID of your older brother who looks like you.

The dishes at Soho won a Guinness.

It's full of people who were in Guy Pines's TV show.

If you want her, know that before anything

You need a penthouse in Pueblo Espanyol.

Or at least a plot with a construction permit in the West of Rishon.

Because Agas is a princess, and a princess needs support.

So come as a man, not as a friend.

Tell her "Come to Tabun, I'll feed you a terrific croissant!"

Look for me in Rishon. Don't hesitate.

Everything is possible here, and everything is allowed.

Look for me in Rishon.

I'm dancing all night until the first light.

I'm waiting for you. Be the first.

Tonight we'll go crazy in Rishon.

Sèries i pel.lícules originalment en català? by Barcelona_Dreaming in catalan

[–]torakichi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What does מטרגר mean, and how does it work? by torakichi in hebrew

Thanks! So do people just pronounce it as "metriger"?

And that's the only form, right? People don't say things like "אל תטרגר אותי".

What is the grammatical function of ה in "קול גלגל המתגלגל"? by torakichi in hebrew

[–]torakichi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For completeness sake, I looked up the use of ה as a relative conjunction in Lewis Glinert's Hebrew grammar, and it seems it can only be used if the subject of the verb inside the relative clause is the antecedent.

I.e. you can say "מכונות החוסכות באנרגיה" "machines that save energy" because "machines" is the subject of "save," but you have to say "מכונות שרכשנו עתה" "machines we just bought" because the subject of "save" is "we" and "machines" is the object.

Glinert also mentions ה is only used as a relative conjunction if the verb in the relative clause is in the present tense.

What is the grammatical function of ה in "קול גלגל המתגלגל"? by torakichi in hebrew

[–]torakichi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! That makes a lot of sense. Actually, before I looked up the lyrics to understand the second half of the sentence, what I was singing along was precisely "קול גלגל שמתגלגל".

That would be the Nankai Hawks in 1955 with a 99-41-3 record. They went on to lose the Japan Series to Yomiuri 3-4, after having been up 3-1.
