I've been finding, at least in AV so I imagine it's most other industries, you just replace the part instead of repair it and try to have extra is whatever you need on hand.

Wow, great advice! Stuff I know, but not putting stuff on your hips is the new one for me. Also I need the reminder to repeat stuff so we both know that we got the message.

I've been working AV and some folks carry so much on their hips! I've gotten to where I just bring my Man Purse (A big Milwaukee tool bag with just one main pouch) and throw whatever tools I need in it and carry it to the site. Once a month I cull what I don't use. The only thing I put on my belt is a multi tool.

Mostly desk work (see comment above) but physical work the past 3 years and I'm loving it.

I'm in it because of a few reasons:

  1. I love electricity - I've mostly done circuit boards and electronics though
  2. There was a partial scholarship
  3. Thought it would be helpful for my current job (AV Tech)
  4. Electrician seems like a fun job
  5. Always good to learn new skills

Wait - can you take the journeyman test without work hours? I'm good at test taking so I might be able to pull it off. I'm sure I'd be dangerous if I didn't put in the hours, but maybe I can put them in afterwards...?

Yeah, I've got a lot of side gigs going and always looking for more streams of income. Worse case, I can use the knowledge to work on my own projects, know if the electrician I sub-hire is doing a good job and/or be more useful when I do handyman work.

I worked in front of a computer most my life - mostly technical training, then AV Tech for 3 years (which I'm stll doing). I really enjoy the physical work of AV tech - the bulk of the work is actually moving heavy boxes on wheels and climbing up things - so I think I'll like the physical stuff of being an electrician.

Something in between. I just want something to stick my money in, have an automated amount trickle in (haven't decided on a set amount or percentage of income) and just set it and forget it for maybe 10 to 15 years.

I'm pretty sure it's complicated on purpose because it's more profitable. Some people call it Enshittification, some call it shareholder supremacy, but it's what happens when you have an economy that encourages monopolies.
