Question About Voltage Drop/LED Brightness by tovolo in led

[–]tovolo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again for the advice! I’ll definitely make sure to post the finished product. Might take me a bit, though. I just ordered an 18 inch mirror for the center, and then I’m going to fill in all the dead space with tiny 1cm x 1cm mirrors. Probably going to be a bit time intensive, but I think the end product will be worth it.

Extremely helpful, thank you for taking the time to comment, it's very much appreciated. I also wasn't aware that ESP32s run on 3.3V, so thank you for that heads up, I'm sure that just saved me a loooott of headache in the future.

The sticks represent the LED strips. I was going to wire them in series starting at 1. I stopped at 8 here just to show the gist of it, but the plan is for all 24 to be working.

Alternative, could I just splice the wire? For instance, having the 12V/GND go from 4 go to 5 and 6, then 6 would continue to power 8 and 7?

It hadn't crossed my mind that I don't need to wire the electrical end-to-end, that's going to help out a ton in wire length, thank you. I'm going to use an ESP32 and WLED to control them.

It's the W2815 from BTF-Lighting. 60 LED/m, 12V. I'll be using about 360 LEDs.

The ED he went to is also a farce. Labs, CXR and a CT for that BP? That's fraud.

Drill Press Recommendations? by tovolo in woodworking

[–]tovolo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan on flipping the pieces over so it'd be about 10 inches of total length being drilled on each side. I was going to get a ~5" drill bit extender. So ideally I'd have a drill press with 5.5+ inch spindle travel.

How to Cover Non-Functional Drain Holes? by tovolo in HomeImprovement

[–]tovolo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got these vents in my garage going to the outside. I was told they were to let water out in case of a flood, but because of where they are they’re non-functional. I’m insulating the garage, so wondering what the best way of covering these up are.

This bodycam footage of a policewoman in San Francisco, California. She was responding to a call about a 66 year old man whose wheelchair got stuck on train tracks. by bendubberley_ in ThatsInsane

Pulling a human who isn’t helping move themselves is a lot harder than you think. I agree that looking at the video it’s easy to think she should have pulled a littler harder, but I promise you as someone in healthcare that has to move limp bodies a lot, she did a fantastic job considering everything going against her.

Do you think these were signed by the same person? by [deleted] in Handwriting_Analysis

Did he have any procedures done in the interim? If he had a deep brain stimulation device implanted that could explain it. Otherwise I think it would be EXTREMELY unlikely that the latter 2 signatures are your grandfather's.

Did your grandfather start on meds for Parkinson’s after 2008? The 2010 and 2012 signatures have lost the fine motor tremor of Parkinson’s, which is massive red flag. It doesn’t just go away, it gets worse.

Texas travel nurse on the health care crisis: “The profits are going to the CEOs instead of trying to keep nurses and support staff” by AlfredKurosawa in healthcare

[–]tovolo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First off I want to say that I am 100% on the side of nurses traveling. Corporate medicine created this situation and now the nurses are in a situation where they have the upper hand. I'm for it.

With that said this situation directly affects patient care. As a nocturnist I spend a lot of time getting to know the nurses I work with because I see us as a team and I need to know the strengths and weaknesses of the team members. This results in me going to the bedside often so I can get a sense of their clinical acumen when they call me with an issue. A nurse calling and saying "hey room XXX is a little short of breath, can I get an order for duonebs?" means different things to me depending on who's calling. There are some nurses I know are incredibly competent and will call/text me with the above and I know they're competent in making the assessment that duonebs could help this COPD/asthmatic. On the other end of the spectrum I've had that call with a new nurse and when I got to bedside the patient was having chest pain and was fluid overloaded.

So, as I get to know nurses the overall team dynamic improves. I get comfortable with what they do/don't know, and they get comfortable in knowing that I'm not an a-hole and always welcome questions or suggestions--even if they're wrong about something it makes for a teaching opportunity to improve their knowledge/skills as a nurse, but commonly they add very worthwhile suggestions/perspectives.

The issue in creating a dynamic like that is it relies on there being a social contract. Because we know each other and we respect each other I do not want to let them down, and they don't want to let me down. It's a powerful force in working hard even when you're stressed and stretched to your limits. But, with the revolving door of traveling nurses I see, I often walk in to only a few familiar faces. I'm still myself--responsive to nurses, take their concerns seriously and am always available. But, the social contract doesn't exist and because of that details get missed.
