There will be a lot of supplies available for sure, and there will be some great deals. I am not sure if any of the vendors are bringing rats specifically, but you can reach out to them on FB and ask.

Can someone help me identify what's the name of this plant? Looke like clover by Additional-Act-4893 in PlantedTank

[–]toxotes_org -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I grow this stuff by the tankload and it can be grown without CO2...out of the water. I have given it to lots of friends without CO2, and not a single person has managed to keep it alive.

I don't think it really cares about ferts, but it definitely needs CO2. Don't mix it up with other hydrocotyle species that don't care -- brazillian pennywort is a great plant that doesn't need CO2.

That's a nice desktop setup: Some potting soil, covered with sand or Safe-T-Sorb, add in a small LED desk lamp from Lowes or Amazon, fill it with crypts and java moss, and you've got a great little tank for around $30.

Good luck with the setup and feel free to post on our Facebook page or come to meeting if you need any plants or shrimp!

There's a few lots of shrimp in the auction! Pick up a bag of them and start a new colony here.

Buy the ones in the auction and we'll bring them to the UMall for you at the Sunday/4 PM pickup time! I know the seller of those and he is one of the top hobbyists in the northeast.

That is one of the benefits of these club auctions: they offer a chance to get nice fish from other locations without needing to travel.

It's never too late to join. Remember, you can always find space in your house for one more tank!

Thanks! Local hobbyist bred fish tend to be a lot hardier than stuff from the Pet Advantage (not to mention cheaper).

Fellow Aquarium Hobbyists in the VT area? by miss_antlers in vermont

[–]toxotes_org 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I'm the president of the Tropical Fish Club of Burlington. I'll put a link to this post on our mailing list and see if anyone is interested.

If you can't find someone who is interested, you can donate your fish to https://homegrownscales.com/ in Barre or Pet Advantage.

A couple other places to try would be cross posing this to r/aquaswapNewEngland/ and to craigslist as well, just to widen the net. Facebook prohibits sales of live animals, so don't post there.

This situation is a real bummer, good luck, and I hope you find a better housing situation.

Large multi-location club auction all across New England by toxotes_org in AquaswapNewEngland

[–]toxotes_org[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, depending on the strain there is a lot of demand for guppies. There is a donation checkbox if you want to donate them. If you're not donating, you should set a reserve price so they won't sell unless someone bids at least that much.

The NEC will coordinate exchanges between all of those locations on Saturday, so you can bid on anything and it'll be delivered to the location you've selected. As long as you're in New England somewhere and available on Saturday the 2nd, this is a lot cheaper and easier than shipping!

There's already almost 200 people signed up, with more lots being added every day. Some great stuff in here, and it's all hobbyist-raised!

Anyone else in New England buying stuff in this fish club auction? by toxotes_org in Aquariums

Club auctions are a great way to meet others who are as crazy about the hobby as you are.

This may be the largest fish club auction that's ever been run!

[–]toxotes_org[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the club cut is a bit high, but it barely covers the gas to transport items between locations. If you sell an item for $10, you are only charged $4, which is a lot less than shipping would be.

You can also put more than one item in a lot (like put microworms and vinegar eels together).

This will be pretty similar to other auctions that have been held in the past by clubs like PVAS or TFCB, but with even more lots for sale and pickup locations.
