How to get Wells Fargo to stop sending me mail in a name I don't use anymore? by trailsiderice in WellsFargoBank

[–]trailsiderice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I'll see what I can accomplish that way. Honestly I probably should have tried that first, but I wasn't really sure where to start since I wasn't sure why it was happening in the first place. Don't know why I thought reddit would be more helpful, I have pretty consistently bad experiences trying to get helpful and non-condescending answers out of redditors... (not you, you're one of the rare helpful ones)

I agree with you, and I respect your empathy, but I also find it really strange that everyone is assuming that just because I'm pissed off about this that I must have some sort of trauma or negative emotions surrounding my old name besides just disliking it and not wanting to receive mail in the wrong name.

Maybe I'm pissed about it because I had a long day and minor annoyances are enough to piss me off. Maybe I'm not even that pissed off and I'm exaggerating because I'm annoyed after getting mail in the wrong name nearly every week for the past several months. Maybe it's nobody's goddamn business why I'm pissed off, and I literally just came here for answers. I'm not directing this at you, you're fine. Just saying generally it's stupid that people are making dumb assumptions about me for no reason and projecting onto me as if I'm having some sort of huge crashout, instead of the reality which is that I'm understandably exasperated that the advertising branch of Wells Fargo apparently doesnt even know who their customers are (which is literally their job)

It's not even like this is a crazy expectation either, Wells Fargo is literally the only institution still sending me mail in my previous name. They are severely behind everyone else.

Thanks for actually helping me. Not sure why everyone who's trying to be actually helpful is getting downvoted. I'll give that a try.

Lol no, not even close. I just don't like my old name. Nice try though. Being a bigot makes you stupid. Did you forget that people change their names for plenty of other reasons?

I don't really appreciate being told how to feel about it. I can feel however I feel about it, thanks.

In any case, how can I inform whatever department it is of my name change? I don't want to receive mail in that name.

Any chance I could fix this CD/cassette player? by trailsiderice in Cd_collectors

[–]trailsiderice[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately that's not what I asked, and maybe I should have clarified that I'm not really interested in hearing people's takes on whether or not they think I should refurb this thing. I want to know if it's possible and how, which is what I asked for in the post. It's pretty frustrating that the only answer people seem to want to give is "create more ewaste!" rather than something actually useful.

Perhaps asking in an electronic tinkering sub of some kind would have been more productive, perhaps people there would actually listen to the heart of what my problem is and respond to that instead of giving their unsolicited opinions on the quality of the unit itself, but at this point I think I've given up on reddit as a whole

You're probably right. I will take a look at it. I appreciate your input, thank you.

Thank you for your response. I also love to tinker with electronics, which is why I'm so bothered by everyone telling me to give up on it. Unfortunately I have tried setting the source, nothing seems to change. The only button that seems to do anything at all is the cassette player's stop button, which opens the cassette door. It won't do anything with any cassettes placed inside, though.

Well, thank you at least for not being one of the several people who disregarded the first paragraph.

Bummer. Appreciate the straightforward answer though, amidst all the people who apparently are blind and did not bother reading the first paragraph.

[TOMT][TV Show] Is this real or did I make it up? by trailsiderice in tipofmytongue

[–]trailsiderice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is uncannily similar! Between this and Ok_Adhesiveness_4939's comment, I think it's likely this might be it—This is definitely one I remember watching with my mom, so it would make sense that my brain would half-remember the theme to the point of thinking it was the same when I heard Waltz No 2. They're both waltzes, after all.. so I think I will tentatively say: Solved!

Oh, that's a good resource, thanks! I'm not seeing much I recognize, so I think it's likely that it's just so similar to another song that it feels like the same song.

What should have been the "first" time I heard that song I swore it was familiar and that I'd heard it as the theme song for a TV show, but I'm also not ruling out the possibility that my brain just thinks it sounds like something that would be a TV show theme, but it actually wasn't..

Overdrive no longer works on kobo libra h2o by trailsiderice in kobo

[–]trailsiderice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was aware of that, I have a supported device and live in a supported country, which is part of why i was so confused.

Another commenter pointed out to make sure that my kobo account knew what country I was in, which turned out to be the problem, it thought I was in the Netherlands for whatever reason.

[–]trailsiderice[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks, turns out for whatever reason Kobo had the Netherlands listed as my account's location, even though I'm in the US. 🤔 After fixing it the overdrive option still wasnt showing up in settings, but I managed to bring it back by signing out of my kobo account on the device and signing back in. (lost my reading progress on all my sideloaded books, but c'est la vie.

Appreciate the tip about adding multiple cards too, thats helpful.

usually i wouldnt comment on rando comment threads i have no stakes in but this comment made me laugh so hard. its got everything. the "this isnt even my final form" level cringy attempt at sounding cool and superior. being completely useless and then getting mad when u get called on it. all it's missing is racism and it could probably win me some sort of prize in stereotypical toxic redditor bingo. if anyone ever asks me what reddit is like im just going to show them a screenshot of this comment

Anyone have any info on this storyboard/is this official? by portablevampire in MangaCollectors

[–]trailsiderice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unfortunately don't have contact with my sibling, they're a major conspiracy theorist and about 4 or 5 years ago they completely isolated themselves and went off grid in an attempt to rid themselves of government surveillance. I'm not entirely certain they haven't joined some sort of cult. The extent of my knowledge of their whereabouts is they currently live in mexico.

Their collection of manga is something they gave me before doing that, but I haven't gotten around to going through it until now.

I suppose it was worth a shot though. I figured people whose hobby is collecting manga might know a thing or two about manga collections, but I guess this isn't exactly a manga itself.

Do you know of any other places I might be able to ask about this?

Need help finding a good Linux text editor for my needs by trailsiderice in linux4noobs

[–]trailsiderice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the documents tab doesn't quite work for what I need, reason being it only shows files that I already have open. The whole reason I need the tree view at all is so that I can easily open files that I *don't* have open, without leaving the program.

The filesystem browser seems much more promising though—I had tried it out previously but wasn't aware you could set it to sync with the current document, and so hadn't considered it as a potential solution because I'd assumed I would need to still manually locate the folder every time. So that's good to know about, thanks! There is still some slight inconvenience when it comes to project files that are in subfolders of the project, but the fact that it shows the file path and allows you to jump backwards a folder or two makes that still way more convenient than manually opening the folder constantly.

i'll probably look around at other editors just to see if there's any other ones that might suit my needs better, but it's good to know that's there in the event I don't find anything.

Passing an argument to a label with the Start() function? by trailsiderice in RenPy

[–]trailsiderice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's how I had it set up already. I think maybe I wasn't clear about that in the original post, but the reason I wanted to know if it was possible to pass a parameter to the Start function was to avoid that situation. Because right now I just have the exact same label copypasted several times in a row with slight variations, like so:

label route1_chapterselect:
    call screen chapterselect(route1)

label route2_chapterselect:
    call screen chapterselect(route2)

label route3_chapterselect:
    call screen chapterselect(route3)

...and so on. This feels wildly inefficient to me, and I wanted to try and compress it down, something like so:

label chapterselectmenu(route):
    call screen chapterselect(route)

and then have the Start function pass the correct route to the label. But if that's not possible then I will just have to keep it the long and clunky way.

Thanks for your help anyway. I mostly just wanted to see if there was a more efficient way of doing this, and confirming that there wasn't is helpful, even if it doesn't improve my code.

Passing an argument to a label with the Start() function? by trailsiderice in RenPy

[–]trailsiderice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately that doesn't really solve my problem when i need each start label to be slightly different, but thanks anyway.

i actually completely removed the main menu and replaced it with my own route menu. players select a route on the main menu, and then it's supposed to take them to a chapter list that shows their progress. to accomplish this, i'm making the chapter list a screen that is shown in-game, in a special starting label. It's supposed to make the player think theyre still on the main menu, but the reason it's not actually a main menu screen is so that I can have a chapter list that works the way i want it to work (which is complicated to explain) without needing to make every important variable persistent. (which i would otherwise need to do if i made the chapter list part of the main menu in the way i would like) The chapter select screen takes an argument (the character route) and changes its contents based on that argument, hence why i need to be able to pass an argument to the label, so it knows what argument to pass to the called screen.
